Open
as hell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Open my scars
Open my eyes

The sick
Deserted
The hollow
Fall further
I burn these tracks that I've laid
Dried out for days
I stare into the sun
I'm trapped within these four walls
Pacing I step
Fear what I've become

Where were you when I was dying
None are we innocent
Blinded and malevolent
You choked my breath
I was gasping
God save the motherless
Absolve the sickness through death

{chorus}
From the dark womb
To the cradle
In a mortal
Of the needle
We are the motherless
Ride the spiral
Chase the dragon
Endless miles

I die a little more each day
This forced separation
Addiction
Regression
Suspended animation
My life to death transition

I bit from the poisoned apple

You left me here to die (a shroud of sorrow)
Die
Die
Die
(bit trough the marrow)

So here are we
Here we'll stay until we die or fall apart
The horror covers me again

All my dreams are dust
The future seen through grey eyes
Foreboding taste of death
My life a sad facade
All resistance weak
Just push the poison in
Damage irreparable
I'll never get out whole
The lie I bought proved my mortality
The hell is never ending
This is the death of me

Open my eyes

{chorus}

Overall Meaning

The song "Open" by As Hell is a dark and emotional track that delves into themes of addiction, despair, and hopelessness. The opening lines, "Open my scars, open my eyes," speak to the singer's desire to confront their pain and face their demons head-on. The lyrics that follow paint a bleak picture of a life consumed by addiction, with references to being "dried out for days" and "bit from the poisoned apple."

As the song progresses, the singer's desperation becomes more apparent. They call out for help, asking "where were you when I was dying" and pleading for absolution from their sickness. The chorus, with its imagery of being "the motherless" and chasing after the dragon of addiction, reinforces the song's themes of alienation and self-destruction.

Despite the darkness of its themes, "Open" is a powerful and honest portrayal of the struggles of addiction and the search for redemption. The repeated refrain of "open my eyes" suggests that the singer is still searching for a way out, even in their darkest moments.

Late, but it actually says, in reverse,

"To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero."

John Romero says this backwards as the icon of sin speaks what that sounds like (your comment).

The backstory? Well, its interesting. John Romero is one of the 4 developers that made doom. He was playtesting this level until he went back by the dot that is his hurtbox, but instead a dot, it was John Romero's head on a stick, so to get back at them, he and a music developer and sound editor recorded, "To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero." But its reversed and heavily distorted. If i can find a video of his head on a stick, i will post here asap.

Im sorry if all this extra wasn't needed.

This is cool and all, but don't let it distract you from the fact that the longer the Icon of Sin is on earth, the stronger it will become.
