Catch
blake and jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A life of healing and a sense of you
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
It reminds me of the day I was born
The day I first laid eyes on you
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
And when I fall in love
I'll take your smile as my notion
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
I still love you
Catch a wave and you're feeling high
Well, how much higher can you get from me
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
Like a rope I am torn and bound
An undeniable hope I've found
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
And when I fall in love
I'll take your smile as my notion
And when I see your face
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
I still love you
What would I do
If I can't be with you
And all my life is found in you
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
And when I fall in love
I'll take your smile as my notion
And when I see your face
I'll be your dying devotion
And when my love is found
I'll catch a wave by the ocean
The lyrics to Blake and Jones's song Catch are quite cryptic, but they seem to express a sense of hesitation or suspicion in a romantic relationship. The repeated refrain "Where's the catch?" suggests that the singer is wary of something hidden or undisclosed in the relationship, even though everything seems "rose" or perfect. The song has a dreamy and ethereal quality, with lines like "Everything's ghost now" and "All of a sudden, it's falling, it's over though" adding to the sense of uncertainty and impermanence.
In the verses, the lyrics become even more surreal and symbolic, touching on themes of confinement, dizziness, disillusionment, and regeneration. It's not entirely clear how these images relate to the main message of the song, but they add to the enigmatic and poetic atmosphere of the music. The last line, "There must be a catch," is delivered in a distorted, robotic voice, underscoring the sense of artificiality or performance in the relationship.

AMEN!
