Skin
bleaker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

For everything that you are
I wanna suffocate
And everything that you've got
It's all exaggerated

So whatcha say?
So whatcha say?
So whatcha say?

And all the girls back home
They wanna touch your skin
And everything that you've known is

So whatcha say?
So whatcha say?
So whatcha say?

It's cool, baby

One day you'll see the sun
And everything will go on

Overall Meaning

In this song, Bleaker is expressing his frustration with someone who he feels is receiving too much attention and praise for things that are not necessarily deserving of such accolades. The first two lines, "For everything that you are, I wanna suffocate, and everything that you've got, it's all exaggerated" suggest that the subject has a tendency to overinflate their ego and accomplishments, causing Bleaker to feel smothered by their self-importance.

The chorus then asks the subject a pointed question: "So whatcha say?" It's difficult to determine if this is a genuine inquiry or a sarcastic one. Either way, it shows that Bleaker is trying to get the subject to really think about their words and actions, and perhaps questioning their inflated opinion of themselves.

The following lines "And all the girls back home, they wanna touch your skin, and everything that you've known is..." show that this person not only overvalues themselves but has also built up a following or fanbase that is equally obsessed with them. The last two lines of the chorus repeat the question from the beginning, emphasizing that this is the central point of Bleaker's frustration.

The song then concludes with a somewhat optimistic note: "It's cool, baby, one day you'll see the sun, and everything will go on." This suggests that Bleaker is willing to let go of his frustration and that things will eventually work out, even if it takes some time.
