Dogs Eating Dogs
blink-182 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I’ve got a feeling, I’ve got a feeling
These broken nights and bitter ends
We would always starve and devour
Our closest friends my beautiful friends
Paranoia my paranoia
Can’t let it go, it never lets me go
What am I feeling, why am I feeling
Forecast into the freezing cold

Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs
Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs

I’m the last and the first in a very sad set of eyes
To the bone, to the knees, to the factory line
I am numb to the shot, I have a crippling fear of heights
‘Cause the fall sounds a lot like a symphony cries

Your only hope is burning down the chapel
All getting washed out with the tide
We need to find some middle ground
It’s always sex or suicide

Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs
Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs

I’m the last and the first in a very sad set of eyes
To the bone, to the knees, to the factory line
I am numb to the shot, I have a crippling fear of heights
‘Cause the fall sounds a lot like a symphony cries

Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs
Dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs, dogs eating dogs

I’m the last and the first in a very sad set of eyes
To the bone, to the knees, to the factory line

I am numb to the shot, I have a crippling fear of heights
‘Cause the fall sounds a lot like a symphony cries

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Blink-182's song "Dogs Eating Dogs" are a reflection of the band's longstanding preoccupations with anxieties and fears related to social relationships and personal growth. The song is driven by Mark Hoppus's introspective lyrics, which call attention to the destructive behaviours of human beings, with the titular phrase "Dogs eating dogs" being used to represent the vicious cycle of exploitation and greed that seemingly governs human nature.

The song begins by describing a sense of isolation and unease, with the singer feeling trapped by their own thoughts and unable to escape the overwhelming feeling of paranoia that haunts them. The repeated refrain of "What am I feeling, why am I feeling?" highlights the sense of confusion and disorientation that comes with navigating difficult emotional terrain. Hoppus then goes on to describe the ways in which people often treat each other with cruelty and selfishness, sacrificing their closest friendships and relationships in order to get ahead.

The second half of the song takes a slightly more hopeful turn, with the singer recognizing the need for change and the possibility of finding "middle ground" between extremes. However, the mood is still dark and fatalistic, with the final lines suggesting that even when we strive for something better, we are ultimately doomed to fall and that this fall will be accompanied by an overwhelming sense of loss and tragedy.

Truth! And how they made people realize things that society tries to denormalize blink 182 gives people a sense of comfort knowing that people just over react when they see people having fun cus some take it too far as other don't. Rather than society just be skeptical they take it too far and try to punish. The harshness that gets impacted on people that aren't being harmful but just want to have harmless fun get the bad rep... for it. Basically blink 182 allows people to see that they over react and to lighten up. those that are wise will get it and be light having fun. Those that don't will more than likely dislike blink 182. But it's sad that deep down what the real issue that isn't being addressed is the problem never is or was blink 182. It's the person's mindset that formed that opinion and it's their mindset that will rob them of life. Once they see that they won't be that grumpy person who flinches at any sight of people having fun cus they will know they were the problem. Moral of the story blink 182 keeps people young and helps those in need to be open minded and to realize how dumb it is to stress yourself out over things that don't have any affect on their personal life

Seriously seriously under-rated. The melodies are incredible, some of the best Tom has ever written.

Also the drums in “Dogs eating dogs” is just off the charts. The way Travis hits those Tom rolls in the verse is so fucking cool.

The songwriting is just incomparable. Its just on another level than some of the other major pop punk bands. they're the GOATS.
