Aurora
c-moon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

(C.W. McCall, Bill Fries, Chip Davis)

One night last summer we were camped at ten thousand feet up where the air is clear, high in the Rockies of Lost Lake, Colorado. And as the fire burned low and only a few glowing embers remained, we laid on our backs all warm in our sleeping bags and looked up at the stars.

And as I felt myself falling into the vastness of the Universe, I thought about things, and places, and times.

I thought about the time my grandma told me what to say when I saw the evening star. You know, Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.
The air is crystal-clear up here; that's why you can see a million stars.

I remember a time a bunch of us were in a canyon of the Green River in Wyoming; it was a night like this. And we had our rafts pulled up on the bank an' turned over so we could sleep on 'em, and one of the guys from New York said, "Hey! Look at the smog in the sky! Smog clear out here in the sticks!" And somebody said, "Hey, Joe, that's not smog; that's the Milky Way."

Joe had never seen the Milky Way.

And we saw the Northern Lights once, in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. They're like flames from some prehistoric campfire, leaping and dancing in the sky and changing colors. Red to gold, and blue to violet... Aurora Borealis. It's like the equinox, the changing of the seasons. Summer to fall, young to old, then to now. And then tomorrow...

And then everyone was asleep, except me. And as I saw the morning star come up over the mountains, I realized that life is just a collection of memories. And memories are like starlight: they go on forever.

Overall Meaning

In the song "Aurora" by C.W. McCall, Bill Fries, and Chip Davis, the lyrics paint a vivid picture of a memorable night spent camping in the Rocky Mountains of Lost Lake, Colorado. The scene is set with the campfire dwindling down to embers, creating a peaceful and reflective atmosphere under the clear, starlit sky. The singer describes the profound experience of gazing up at the stars from a high elevation, feeling a sense of awe and interconnectedness with the vast Universe.

As the singer delves into contemplation, they recall memories and teachings passed down to them by their grandmother, specifically the childhood rhyme for making a wish upon the evening star. This nostalgic moment highlights the connection between nature, tradition, and the human experience. The lyrics emphasize the clarity of the air at high altitudes, allowing for a breathtaking view of a million stars spread across the night sky, creating a sense of wonder and insignificance in the grand scheme of the cosmos.

The narrative shifts to a reminiscence of a past adventure in Wyoming, where the contrast between city life and the natural world is juxtaposed through a humorous encounter with a friend mistaking the Milky Way for smog. This anecdote serves as a reminder of the beauty and mystery of the natural world that can be overlooked or underappreciated in urban environments. The mention of witnessing the awe-inspiring Northern Lights in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana further underscores the theme of experiencing the sublime and mystical wonders of nature.

The song concludes with a poignant reflection on the transient nature of life and the enduring power of memories. The singer acknowledges the impermanence of moments, likening memories to starlight that shines on eternally. The imagery of the morning star rising over the mountains symbolizes a new dawn and the cyclical nature of existence, where memories serve as guiding lights that illuminate the path forward. The lyrics ultimately convey a sense of gratitude for the beauty of the natural world and the timeless significance of shared experiences that shape our lives.

This song was AMAZING In SkyCOTL's concert! Just to fly along her with like 4000 other Sky kids was truly MEZMERIZING!!

The coliseum was beautiful at night with all the decorations, yoga/mindfullness room, crab races, photo stand, the tea tables, the seesaw and swings, the music spot and that people could see your messages!

TGC really packed out this time because my goodness it was a blast to experience this musical voyage with my friends! This is where memories are made! I'm glad Aurora is a part of Sky's wonderful soundtrack and can't wait to see (and hear) more of her works in the future!

I thank Aurora, TGC and eveyone who made this event possible.

Our lights truly do shine brighter together.

While I was in the Navy, I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. One woman who I absolutely adore happened to be Samoan. She and I were only 20 years old at the time but, she was wise beyond our years. She and I would sing songs and harmonize below the ships decks while everyone else slept, it was magical.

Anyway, one thing she told me that really stuck with me was while she was singing a song from her ancestors. I cannot remember for the life of me what the name was, but it moved me. I told her I have found it increasingly difficult to connect to lyrics with todays music. More and more of it just sounds like noise to me, and I cant get my heart to connect. I had tears welling up as I told her how her song moved me so and she looked me dead in the eyes and said, "my grandmother always told me 'if you find yourself being moved emotionally by the songs and art of other cultures, it is your ancestors trying so hard to connect. Listen to them and follow that feeling for only good things will ever come of it' and she was always right".

This song moved me beyond tears. In a world where no one talks about empathy and acceptance; news headlines are almost always tragic, wrapped in anger and hatred; I stumbled across this work of art out of the blue when I needed it most.

Immediately I scrambled for a notebook and a pen and began writing again. I haven't written a lyric in 4 years. Aurora, you are otherworldly. You have moved me and touched my soul in a way I never thought an artist would again. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with the world. I will follow this feeling and listen closely to it, nurture it and never let it fade again.

Have a wonderful night.

Your new fan,
Annie, New York

These are the English lyrics to Helvegen. Even thought they are rally beautiful the main aspect is their voices and the feeling the music emitted. It is quit magical and very primal.

Who will sing me
Into the death-sleep sling me
When I walk the road to Hel
And the tracks I tread
Are cold, so cold

I sought the songs
I sent the songs
When the deepest well
Offered drops so mighty
Of Valfather’s pledge

I know it all, Odin
Where you hid your eye

Early or in fading day
Still the raven knows if I fall

When you stand by the gate of Hel
And when you must tear loose
Follow you I shall
Across the bridge of Gjöll
With my song

You will be free from the bonds that bind you
You are free from the bonds that bound you

[Håvamål - The High Ones' Speech, Poetic Edda]

Cattle die, kinsmen die
You yourself will also die
But the word about you will never die
If you win a good reputation

Cattle die, kinsmen die
You yourself will also die
I know one thing that never dies
The reputation of those who died

No one is trying to police you wtf.

If it's purely figurative then I don't see why you'd respond, as my comment applies to folk who literally believe in spirits.

"Just chemicals" tho.
Ah yes you probs find science boring.

The underdogs are my lions
The silent ones are my choir
The women will be my soldiers
With the weight of life on their shoulders
Drink until you;ve had enough
I'll drink from your hands
I will be your warrior
I will be your lamb
Oh eh oh ah eh oh ah ah
Ah ah oh eh oh
Till queendom come
Till queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
The sea waves are my evening gown
And the sun on my head is my crown
I made this queendom on my own
And all the mountains are my throne
Drink until you've had enough
I'll drink from your hands
I will be your warrior
I will be your lamb
Oh eh oh ah eh oh ah ah
Ah ah oh eh oh
Till queendom come
Till queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
Ah oh ah
My queendom come
My queendom come
Oh oh
I hunt the grounds for empathy
And hate the way it hides from me
Of care and thirst I have become
You have a home in my queendom
You have a home in my queendom
You have a place in my queendom
You have a home
Till queendom come
Till queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come
My queendom come

I am so glad that Sky brought a new wave of Aurora fans. She is absolutely moving and wholesome.
One of the most underated artists out there.

@KainAndTheWildlandsOfficial

Really, friend. I discovered her not through sky, but she had a song that was the same name of a meditation I used to listen to.
