Samurai

No emotion could ever stay your hand
No consolation
No word of love or praise
Your fight is over
Your enemies are gone
Your fight is over
Samurai, Samurai
Hesitate, wonder why
At all the anger you have seen?
Samurai, Samurai
Does your blood run cold?
No light shines in your eye
No burning flame in your soul
If you're lonely you never show a sign
No devotion could ever change your mind
No illusion when your work is done
Nobody knows you
Nobody knows your name
Nobody knows you
Samurai, Samurai
Did you ever dream?
Hesitate, wonder why
At all the anger you have seen?
Samurai, Samurai
Does your blood run cold?
No light shines in your eye
No burning flame in your soul
The song "Samurai" by Michael Cretu is about a warrior who has dedicated his life to fighting and has become emotionally detached. The commission, or his life's purpose, was written in the sand, meaning that it was fleeting and temporary. He displays no emotions and can easily kill without any hesitation or regret. There is no recognition or reward for his work, and he remains anonymous. The samurai is portrayed as a cold and lonely figure with no emotions or burning passion in his soul.
The chorus questions the samurai's dreams, doubts, and emotions. The line "Did you ever dream? Hesitate, wonder why at all the anger you have seen?" suggests that the samurai may have doubts and regrets about his chosen path, but these thoughts are never expressed. The line "Does your blood run cold? No light shines in your eye, no burning flame in your soul" reinforces the idea that the samurai has lost touch with his emotions and is a hollow shell of a man.
Overall, the song portrays the samurai as a tragic figure, who has given up everything for his craft and is left feeling lonely and empty.
