Ratinger Hof. At the same time he released his first record - a weird disco-tune called
DISCODAMNED NATION, which sold good and helped to get more gigs. After a
while he got bored of that non-musical audience and mainly ibizahouse-orientated
scene in the rhine area and hosted his own electronic parties at the UNIQUE CLUB
once a month on a sunday with nice guests like Michael Mayer, DJ Hell or Ego
Express. There he got to know Henry Storch, manager of Unique, and both found out
they have a similar record collection and musical background, starting from 60s-
Garagepunk, Beat, Soul, RnB, Jazz, Funk to 80s/90s Punkrock and Garage to
modern clubsounds and electronica. That was good, because a bit later Popp
deejayed also on saturdays at Unique, where it was possible to mix a lot of different
styles together - that was exactly what he was looking for.
In 1998 he started to host the thursday at unique which was planned to be a
60s/mod-night with northern soul, RnB, hammond groove, Freakbeat and Garage,
played by a lot of famous bands and deejays. Some highlights were Brian Auger,
Fuzztones, Bobby Hebb or JTQ.
It was also time to do a new record since nearly 3 years: Frank Popp created THE
FRANK POPP ENSEMBLE, began to produce some tunes for his CATWALK EP,
which was released on Unique Records, followed in 2001 by HIP TEENS DONT
WEAR BLUE JEANS and his first album RIDE ON. That finally opened the borders to
conquer europes decks and minibars every weekend.
As written, Frank Popp likes a lot of different sounds, what made him an
uncompromising freestyle-dj, playing everything from Freakbeat to 60s-Soul/RnB to
Funk to Digital-Disco to Rap to Sampladelica to Indie-Rock to....whatever!?! In order
not confuse people too much he splits his DJing into two persons: FRANK POPP and
MARIA GHOERLS.
FRANK POPP plays mainly 60s-Soul, Early RnB, Funk, Hammond Grooves,
Freakbeat, Garage, IndieRock, etc. Deejayed at Euro Yeye Weekender Spain, The
Beat Goes On Weekender Luanco Spain, 100Club London, Le Beat Bespoke
Weekender 2005 in London, Blow Up Club London, Sound Spectrum Antwerp
Belgium, Hip Cat Club Hamburg, Shelter Club Hamburg, Roter Salon Berlin, Atomic
Cafe Munich, Boogaloo Milano Italy, Buttshakin Montpellier France, and many
more... Next big spin: Mod Mayday Tokyo.
MARIA GHOERLS plays Punkfunk, Digital Disco, Electrorock and Italo Disco.
Deejayed at Supermarket Zurich Switzerland, Funky Kitchen Munich, Hotel Shanghai
Essen, Le Fonque Stuttgart, Studio 672 Cologne, etc. Next big spins: Tanz in den
Mai im Hotel Shanghai, Nordstern Basel, Subway Cologne, etc.

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Ah the man don't understand
That I always here this mean beat thumping through my head
And I know, that you see, this growing lotta pain inside of me
But it's on, I am gone, I am gone
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
Tell me if you want to, tell me if you want to, you must know
Now I aint being cruel
But no one loves the fool
And it's all you've ever done, and on and on you run
And to where will you go?
You're a habit in a cage, with no will to know
But it's on, life is on, life is on
I don't mind
I don't mind
Tell me if you want to, tell me if you want to
I don't mind
I don't mind
Tell me if you want to, tell me if you want to, you must know
Oh I don't know now
Oh I don't know now
Oh I don't know now
Oh I don't know
I don't mind
I don't mind
Tell me if you want to, tell me if you want to
I don't mind
I don't mind
Tell me if you want to, tell me if you want to, you must know
The lyrics to Frank Popp's song "I Don't Mind" convey a sense of frustration, resilience, and a desire for freedom. The singer feels misunderstood by those around him, particularly by "the man" who fails to comprehend his inner turmoil. The song highlights the constant presence of a heavy beat that resonates within the singer's head, representing the angst and pain he carries. The lyrics suggest that the person addressed in the song, who may be a romantic partner or a close confidant, has witnessed this internal struggle, but the singer is determined to continue on his path, even if it means leaving everything behind.
The repetition of the phrase "I don't mind" throughout the song suggests a detachment from external opinions and expectations. The singer asserts that he is not bothered by the judgments of others, emphasizing his disregard for societal norms. He invites this person to share their desires or thoughts, indicating a willingness to listen and consider their perspective. However, beneath this assurance lies a quiet understanding that they should already know what he desires or needs.
Overall, "I Don't Mind" can be interpreted as an anthem for individuality, asserting one's right to be true to oneself amidst societal pressures and expectations. It captures the longing for freedom and the determination to follow one's own path, regardless of the misunderstandings or judgments of others.
