From an early age Roel kept himself busy with finding new sounds and creating music. As GOSTO he and his live band melt the worlds of acoustic and electronic music together into one dubby trip-hop sound; raw, dark but still colourful.
Inspired by traveling, chaos and love as well as artists such as Flying Lotus, James Blake, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley, GOSTO balances between fragile melodies and electronic extravaganza. In his song writing, he thrives to let you experience the thin line between simplicity and complexity. GOSTO takes you to places that you seem to recognize, but not yet have been before.
Roel’s band exists out of musicians how create a tight sound, despite of their totally different background. These four virtuosos have the ability play a ground shaking energetic but still very controlled live-show. Expect thrilling melodies, catchy vocals and deep, deep synths.
In June 2014, GOSTO released his debut EP (premiered on Noisey) and was amongst others support act for How to Dress Well.
GOSTO can be seen at several festivals and at different clubs.
GOSTO band:
Roel Vermeer: Vocals, synths & samples
Mats Voshol: Drums
Reindert Kragt: Bass & synthbass
Luc Schouten: Guitar

Prisoner
gosto Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like a prisoner of my own mind
need a moment to break from this madness
Knowing that trouble is all that i'll find
you’re the only pill I can take
Where the sugar is all that I taste
Keep on taking the edge off the sharpness
Help me walk on the flat of the blade
Cos it feels good
Taking the easy way out
Taking the easy way out
Taking the easy way out
I keep thinking of all the red lights
Turning on & off all through the night
Like a switch that could turn off the madness
I try to escape from my mind
Off the Blade
Runaway to an upside down land
where nobody knows who I am
But the lines on my hands are a magnet
Only I can find out who I am
In Gosto's song "Prisoner," the lyrics depict a sense of feeling trapped and desperate to escape from the chaos and madness of life. The singer feels like a prisoner in their own mind, seeking a brief respite from their troubles. They long for a moment to break free and find solace, acknowledging that trouble is all they will encounter if they continue down their current path.
The lyrics highlight the bittersweet aspect of seeking comfort in temporary solutions, comparing it to taking a pill where the sweet taste of sugar momentarily distracts from the sharpness of reality. The singer acknowledges the allure of the easy way out, yearning for a release from the hardships they face.
The reference to red lights turning on and off throughout the night serves as a metaphor for the constant struggle the singer faces in their mind. They desire a switch that could bring an end to the madness, attempting to escape the turmoil that consumes them. However, the lyrics also suggest that the singer understands that true self-discovery and understanding can only be achieved by confronting their situation head-on.
In summary, "Prisoner" explores the theme of feeling trapped and seeking escapism from the overwhelming challenges of life. The lyrics evoke emotions of longing, desperation, and the struggle to find inner peace.

Although I prefer the dynamics of anticipation and release (don't know how else to describe) of "tell me what you're made of", this is also a solid song. Great things are to come for you Gosto!
