The lyrics of jacksoul's song "How We Do" paint a vivid picture of the late-night cityscape, where lost souls roam the streets in search of connection and belonging. The singer reflects on their past experiences, recalling a time when they used to linger in doorways after shows, feeling incomplete without their significant other. This sense of yearning and longing is a central theme throughout the song, as the singer navigates the complexities of relationships and human connection.
The chorus highlights the grind of everyday life, with everyone working hard and striving to be someone significant. The reference to the "last call fairytale" speaks to the fleeting moments of joy and escapism that people seek in the darkness of the night. The juxtaposition of game-like interactions with genuine emotions, such as loneliness, adds depth to the narrative, showcasing the complexities of human relationships and the search for meaningful connection.
The lyrics delve deeper into the singer's personal journey of self-discovery and growth. They admit to never knowing what they truly wanted until they found their partner, emphasizing the transformative power of love and companionship. The refrain "That's just how we do" suggests a sense of inevitability and acceptance, as the singer acknowledges the ups and downs of their past experiences and how they have shaped their present reality.
As the song progresses, the narrative shifts towards a more positive tone, focusing on the enduring power of love and music in the singer's life. The references to clubs, dance floors, and old-school beats evoke a sense of nostalgia and joy, while the metaphor of music as the singer's melody highlights the importance of their partner in bringing harmony and meaning to their existence. Ultimately, "How We Do" captures the universal themes of love, loss, and self-discovery in a poignant and relatable manner, resonating with listeners on a profound emotional level.
