She's Gone
jacksoul Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everybody's trying to tell me what is right for me
I need a drink and a quick decision
Now it's all up to me
Just what will be
She's gone
Oh I, oh I
She's gone
Oh I, oh I
I'd pay the devil to replace her
She's gone
Oh I
What went wrong
Got up in the mornin'
Look in the mirror
I'm warn as a toothbrush hanging in the stand
My face ain't lookin' any younger
Now all I can see is love takin' her toll on me
[Chorus:]
Think I'll spend eternity in the city
The carbon monoxide chokes my thoughts away
And the girls help dissolve the memories
But they can never be what she was to me
[Chorus:]
The lyrics to jacksoul's song "She's Gone" describe the aftermath of a break up from the perspective of the person left behind. The opening lines suggest that everyone around the singer is trying to offer advice or comfort, but they just want to escape with a drink and make their own decisions moving forward. The chorus repeatedly states "She's gone" with the refrain "Oh I, oh I" emphasizing the sadness and sense of loss felt by the singer. They want to find a way to deal with the situation, but the pain is palpable. The line "I'd pay the devil to replace her" suggests that the singer would do anything to have their ex-lover back, even making a deal with the devil.
Later, the song describes the singer's reflection in the mirror as they realize that they are aging while their ex moves on. The "toothbrush hanging in the stand" is a metaphor for how the singer feels like they are just existing without any real purpose, and the love they had for their partner has taken a toll on them emotionally. The singer suggests that they might find solace in the city, where the noise and distraction can help them forget their pain for a while. However, they acknowledge that the girls they meet in the city can never replace the one they loved and lost.
Overall, "She's Gone" is a poignant and introspective portrayal of heartbreak and the struggle to move on. The lyrics are deeply empathetic and resonate with anyone who has experienced a similar loss.
