@Cheryl Hulting Good...it's hard not to say anything like this to just anyone without thinking it was offensive.
All these people wanted was to exercise their right to freedom of speech, freedom of petition and freedom of assembly, in the name of receiving the rights and freedoms that white people were automatically getting.
My grandparents and parents(as kids), have also faced discrimination since we're Americans of Mexican and Spaniard descent...but nothing compares to what African-Americans of this generation and before, faced. U haven't...and maybe, a part of me wishes I had - just so I could get a taste of what it was like for them...in a warped kind of way.
But, It's just messed up on all levels since people who aren't white(Caucasian), also, should have been given their unalienable rights and freedoms. I mean, "All men are created equal" doesn't exist for nothing.

John Lewis was an absolute inspiration. Stood on the front line and suffered a SKULL FRACTURE and still did his best to save other injured marchers. Everyone who marched that day should be remembered as an American Hero, they don’t make people that tough anymore.

Both dealt with different main issues though, Gandhi was more about The story of India’s independence from Britain, and Selma was about the story of how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed.

One thing that I didn't like about this scene is when the gun goes off people start to run. From watching the real Bloody Sunday they had to move the protesters by shoving them before they started running. This movie was excellent! I remember watching, in the movie theater when it first came out and I was sso angry ! This and The Butter are hard to watch, but I do multiple times!I don't know why people have to be so hateful!

No no no. Back then it WAS all cops. Nowadays, it's not all cops. People shouldnt compare what's going on today, with what happened back then. If you actually think 2020 was the worst year ever, you got a lot to learn. The years during the Civil Rights Era were 100x worse than this. At least black people now are able to talk to white people, date white people, and are able to sit with white people without getting beaten. Back then, if you even made contact with a white person, yous get punished. I forgot his name, but some 15 year old kid went into a store, and said how pretty the girl at the counter was, and she was white, and later that night, that kid was beaten brutally by some guys, and the whole town praised those 2 guys.

It's true that the movie tends to under-represent LBJ's support to create a foil for Dr. King. That's a legitimate criticism made by Johnson scholars. But it still tells an all-too-relevant story that people need to hear.

Things have actually changed, no heavy restrictions. Bathrooms/water fountains/restaurants for Colored folk. In 1963-5 there were many restrictions that black folk weren’t allowed to access. But today that changed. But if you’re speaking of police brutality. Somewhat.

My dad and uncle were both in this march. Dad said it was just as bad as in the movie. A lot of people got hurt but not killed. They both got arrested for participating in the march

The woman in question became part of the resistance in Selma and took part in the second Pettus Bridge march and in organizing the March to Selma. If I remember correctly (and I don't want to), she was later raped and killed by members of the KKK.

@Levity I'm pretty sure Jefferson, despite owning slaves, believed in the rights of African Americans. Maybe he didn't get rid of his slaves because he thought something worse could have happened to the, so he may have just kept them to not let them into the hands of the wrong person. Some people actually treated slaves nicely. And while maybe believing in the rights of these people, he also tried to include something against slavery in the declaration of independence, but it wasn't ratified and was removed because they did not want to lose southern state approval.

Jefferson meant that to troll King George. By saying all men are created equal under God, he was arguing against the 'divine right of kings'. Considering the revolution, he trolled successfully, and the king got triggered.
