make you feel pretty

Over on the corner of Sunset and Doheny
Up the stairs and on the rocks
That's just where she left me waiting
Waiting, so she could get high (high, high, high, high)
She doesn't do it often, only every weekend
Sometimes on a Tuesday, she don't really feel like sleeping
Sleeping, through the night (high, high, high, high)
Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty
The sky ran out of stars, they're all living in the city
Don't wanna be nameless for life
You wanna be famous? That's fine
Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty

You sound like you're from London, I know you're from Ohio
What have I been drinking? What the fuck do I know?
Lately, lately I'm out of my mind (high, high, high, high)
Oh, I could use a Xanax, maybe that'll fix this
She's like an addiction, something I ain't kickin' easy, easy
Am I wasting my time? (high, high, high, high)

Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty
The sky ran out of stars, they're all living in the city
Don't wanna be nameless for life
You wanna be famous? That's fine
Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty

Oh my God, my life is such a mess
Oh my God, I think that I need some rest

She moved in my apartment, now I don't sleep often
Drinking this concoction, have I really lost it?
Maybe, maybe I'm out of my mind

Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty
The sky ran out of stars, they're all living in the city
Don't wanna be nameless for life
You wanna be famous? That's fine
Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty

Don't wanna be nameless for life

You wanna be famous? That's fine
I'm spending all my money just to make you feel pretty

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of lovelytheband's song "Make You Feel Pretty" depict a man who is consumed by his love for a woman who has a destructive addiction. The song is set on the corner of Sunset and Doheny, where the singer is waiting for the woman he loves. She has left him waiting so she can get high, something that she does every weekend and sometimes on a Tuesday when she can't sleep. The man is spending all of his money trying to make her feel pretty, but it seems like a futile effort because she is so consumed by her addiction.

Throughout the song, the man seems to be questioning himself and the relationship, wondering if he is wasting his time by trying to make this woman happy. He compares her addiction to an addiction of his own, noting that she is like a drug he can't kick. He longs for the clarity that Xanax might bring, but it's unclear whether he is addicted to the woman or the feeling of trying to save her.

The chorus repeats the line "Spending all my money just to make you feel pretty," emphasizing the man's single-minded devotion to this woman. The song ends with the man questioning his own sanity and lamenting the mess that his life has become. Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a man who is desperately trying to save a woman who doesn't want to be saved, and who is putting his own mental health and financial stability at risk in the process.

Doubt anyone will see this so that’s why I’m going to say it, this song means the world to me. When I’m in my room trying not to cry, I play it and it cheers me up a little bit. I don’t know what it is, but these guys have some type of magic in their music, and it is very cliche, but this kind of depressing song makes me really fucking happy. I’ve made all my friends listen to it. Rant over, I just love this song so much. Thank you for creating this masterpiece

I know, I saw them live a couple years ago. I stood in the middle of the crowd, staring at Mitchy the entire time like a maniac. It was because I had a headache and got sick from carnival corn dogs and fries, but the music by the end of the concert helped me feel more calm. There was even a point where I thought he saw me (it was a very small crowd, each individual could be easily pointed out and spotted) and probably thought I was a psycho girl in shock or something. But I still enjoyed the music and it helped me to not vomit. Especially when he sang "These are My Friends"

This is why I spend so much time looking for music and it's awesome when you come across bands like these guys. Then what luck I actually heard Broken on the radio the other day and was surprised, but I'm happy to hear them on the radio.
