Ah dance with me, come on, dance with me baby
Dance with me, come on, dance with me baby
Dance with me, come on, dance with me baby
Dance with me, come on, dance with me baby

I want you and you want me
So why don't we get together after the dance?
All right, (what a freak) ooh
(Pretty girl, saw you smile)
When I first saw you
You were looking good on Soul Train, so good
(Oh, I was looking, too)
And I came knocking at you
And I thought that it was right
You was dancing good, spinning everywhere
Baby, I fall over myself, she was so fine
The way she moves, so fine
She was moving so freaky
Need her, what she needs is me

I want you and you want me
So why don't we get together after the dance?

And while we dance (midnight, baby)
Next record, baby (next record, girl)
You were so in time (looked so fine)
The way you move me (move next to me)
Your big warm eyes told me one thing
Oh baby (good vibrations between you and me)
I first caught fire between you and me

Ah (we started walking, you started talking)

That you needed my sweet lovin' baby
And nobody else's, nobodies but my love, baby
And that's how I feel about you, baby
I want you to take me with you (please, baby)
What you gonna do?

Oh I want you, oh and you want me (i want you and you want me)
So why don't we get together after the dance?

Alright, ooh

(Dance with me,) doin' it, baby (dance with me baby)
Saw you moving (dance with me, dance with me baby)
Oh, baby, cheeks caught my eye (dance with me, come on, dance with me baby)
Things have crossed my mind
Hey baby, ooh

I want you and you want me
So why don't we get together after the dance? (Ah baby)
I want you and you want me
So why don't we get together after the dance? (Oh I just want to tell ya, baby)
Oh I want you and you want me (i want to get to know you, baby)
So why don't we get together after the dance?

No, I don't want your number
(Oh I want you) I'm walkin' outta here with you baby
(And you want me)
Oh-oh, take me with you, now (so why don't we)
We've got to get together after the dance?

Please, baby (oh I want you)
You've got to take me with ya (and you want me)
Don't ya know I love ya baby (so why don't we)
Oh baby, get together after the dance?
You know I came back this week, baby (oh, I want you)

Came all the way to find you (and you want me)
(So why don't we get together after the dance?)

Overall Meaning

The song "Dance With Me" by Marvin Gaye is a classic R&B track with an upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics that portray the desire to connect with someone and share a moment of intimacy. The lyrics start by encouraging someone to dance with the singer and then transition to expressing interest in the person and the desire to take the connection further after the dance. Marvin Gaye sings about being drawn to the person's movements and appearance, as well as feeling a certain "vibration" between them.

The lyrics paint a picture of a playful and flirty encounter on the dancefloor, where two people have chemistry and are feeling each other's energy.
