Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things

I walked in town on silver spurs that jingled to
A song that I had only sang to just a few
She saw my silver spurs and said lets pass some time
And I will give to you summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine

Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
Ohhh-oh summer wine

My eyes grew heavy and my lips they could not speak
I tried to get up but I couldn't find my feet
She reassured me with an unfamiliar line
And then she gave to me more summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine

Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
Mmm-mm summer wine

When I woke up the sun was shining in my eyes
My silver spurs were gone my head felt twice its size
She took my silver spurs a dollar and a dime
And left me cravin' for more summer wine
Ohh-oh-oh summer wine

Strawberries cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time

And I will give to you summer wine
Mmm-mm summer wine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's song "Summer Wine" describe the making of a potent concoction out of strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring. The singer stumbles into town on silver spurs that jingle to a song he's only sung to a few. He meets a woman who is impressed by his spurs and they pass the time drinking "summer wine". The singer's eyes grow heavy, his lips cannot speak and he can't find his feet. The woman reassures him with an unfamiliar line and continues to give him more "summer wine". However, when he wakes up, his silver spurs are gone, and he is left with a craving for more "summer wine".

The song is an ode to the pleasures and risks of intoxicating love. The mention of strawberries and cherries, when combined with an angel's kiss, is suggestive of the sweetness and purity of new love. The use of silver spurs as a metaphor for the singer's attraction to the woman and his willingness to take risks for her is also notable. The woman's mysterious reassurance and the singer's drunken state add a foreboding dimension to the song, implying that the singer is possibly being taken advantage of by the woman.

Nancy's intro is beyond fantastic. Lee's voice is so cool. This song is way more tranquilizing than the summer wine itself. A song that I never get tired of listening to.
