Unchained Melody
north alex Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
God speed your love to me!
Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home, wait for me!
Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
The lyrics of "Unchained Melody" by North Alex express the intense longing and desire for a lost love. The singer suggests that they have been separated from their partner for a long time, and they deeply yearn for their touch. The phrase "time goes by so slowly" captures the singer's sense of desperation and the feeling that time has stretched on endlessly without their beloved. They are unsure if their partner still feels the same way about them, asking "Are you still mine?"

They ask their love to wait for them, as the singer will be returning home. The repetition of "I need your love" emphasizes the singer's desperation and longing, with the refrain "God speed your love to me" becoming increasingly urgent with each repetition. Overall, the lyrics of "Unchained Melody" convey a sense of strong emotions and a deep desire to be reunited with a lost love.

I don't know whatever inspired Alex North to write this piece, but in my mind its one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Whist over 1000 covers of this composition exist listening to it in its raw instrumental form, especially by such a distinguished orchestra is pure pleasure. Thanks for posting - lovely images as well.
Joe Micalizzi
He didn't write it, he did an excellent job of covering it. Look up "Unchained Melody" by the Rightous Brothers.
IMF's Resident Otaku
@Joe Micalizzi He did write the song, with lyrics by Hy Zaret, for the 1955 prison film Unchained, for which Todd Duncan sang the vocals. The Righteous Brothers version is a cover, released a decade later.

@Joe Micalizzi I have no idea how the above post happened, I certainly didn't. Even 3 years ago, I know nothing about music. - Very Odd.
