Caroline and Carolyne met when they were 3 and attended the same dance class. Jordan became a friend later through him being in their older siblings' dance classes. The band was formed after they went to auditions being held by their management company. After winning, they signed with Fervent Records and started writing songs.
PureNRG released a Christmas album A pureNRG Christmas around Labor Day 2008. The album was delayed at first due to both personal issues and busy-work with their previously released albums, but, after some consideration, was finally released. It marked the band's first Christmas album. In late 2008, they also released a remix album with the name "ReNRGized". The band described it as "very eccentric but still having the same kinda music style."
In mid-2009, after previous promotion of their new album, their last studio album The Real Thing was released. They released their final album Graduation: The Best of pureNRG on July 20, 2010.
The band decided to disband sometime in late 2010. According to an interview with TVoneLife, reasons included "wanting to be kids again" and "get back into school and education". Also according to the same interview, Carolyne went into 9th grade, Caroline went into 10th grade, and Jordan went into 12th grade in the fall of 2010. Their mission was to "entertain educate and promote Christian values to young people. Using wholesome and uplifting lyrics in our music and with music and dance in order to provide positive role-models and we just really hope that we can showcase that being a child of God is just really so awesome and nobody can ever take that away from you no matter what happens and that’s just the whole reason that we get up on stage and perform for everybody and they really hope that we can get that message across through our music."
They went on a farewell tour in the fall of 2010, celebrating the 5 years of their lives they'd spent as pureNRG. All of the members said they were very sad to be disbanding, but they felt that God was calling them out.
Their last performance was at Fellowship Bible Church in Brentwood, Tennessee on March 4, 2011.
PureNRG officially disbanded on Friday, March 4, 2011.

I'm punching my card
Eight hours, for what
Oh, tell me what I got
I've done this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise
Pull me offa' my knees
Jack, get back
C'mon before we crack
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
You're playing so cool
Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
You're yearning, yearning for some
Somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut
Loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Ooh whee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
Whoa, Milo
C'mon, c'mon let's go
Lose your blues
Everybody cut footloose
We got to turn you around
You put your feet on the ground
Now take a hold of your ball
I'm turning it
The song "Footloose" by pureNRG talks about breaking free from the monotony of everyday life and indulging in celebration and fun. The lyrics start with the singer expressing his frustration with his work, asking what he has achieved by putting in so much effort. He talks about feeling trapped and held down by time, and how he's going to break free from it by tearing up the town or hitting the ceiling. The chorus then comes in, where the singer calls out to cut loose and kick off the shoes. He asks Louise to pull him off his knees, Jack to get back before they crack, and urges everyone to lose their blues and cut footloose.
The second verse talks about how people try to play it cool and follow the rules, but deep down, they yearn for someone to tell them that life is passing them by, and that they need to try and break free. The singer then encourages people to fly by cutting loose and freeing themselves from the restrictions that hold them back. The chorus then repeats, with the addition of naming specific people like Marie and Milo, urging them to shake it and go along with the celebration. The song ends with the singer wanting to turn everyone around and take hold of their ball.
