I recommend you take a look at the Pitchfork top 50 ambient albums and lose yourself in some of those albums. It's a great resource, although not exhaustive. There is so much out there and these are just the one's that spring to mind. Hope you enjoy the journey.

There is just something about this song. It simultaneously crushes me and gives me peace like nothing else I've ever heard before. It is dripping with nostalgia, but not the vintage toys or "I love the 80s" type of nostalgia - it's the nostalgia of being young and surrounded by the people you love; now gone. It's the definition of nostalgia but with extra emphasis on the "longing" part. My Grandfather was and is incredibly important to me. His death hit me hard for many reasons, but suffice to say that it is one of those deaths that I expect to carry with me the rest of my life. Two days after he died - the day we were to visit the funeral home to make arrangements - my mother was moving out of her house. It was April 1st which is normally very cold and gray in the Midwest, but today it was warm and sunny. Nearly all the snow had melted that morning and drops of water were still dripping from the roof onto the driveway. The house was a bit of a mess with boxes scattered everywhere, except in the living room which was empty except for an old upright piano. It was quiet and still, and in my memory I can see the unusually golden-colored sunlight streaming in through the window like a spotlight on the piano, little dust particles hanging in the air through the light. My Grandmother who had been looking out the window, deep in her own thoughts, sat down at the piano and began to play. The music was nothing in particular, just a mishmash of chords from various hymns which she improvised in that moment. She was facing away from me and I don't think she knew that I stood there, watching her, for a long time. At one point my Mom came over and stood next to me, silently watching with me. This song, without failure, every single time brings me back to that exact moment with vivid detail. I hate it and love it at the same time.

That is a gem of a memory. Born in sadness yet beautiful.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of ambient music I've ever heard and I've heard a lot.

@Jukes McGee Hey, that would be great. I think we need to share what's good in times like this. I look forward to some recommendations :)
Jukes McGee
@Fossil Hey man I am familiar with several of the songs on your list. Looks like our tastes coincide. Interested in swapping some more music? I have a lot that I can share as well.
