The Middle
shock-head Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You'll drink what's on your mind
But I'll just keep mine
We won't play in time
Cause it's cooler that way
Photoshoot eyes
A sign in disguise
Sights set on her thighs
That dead look on her face
Write about cigarettes
Mention drugs and sex
You haven't sold your soul

And your
Middle finger won't save rock and roll, oh no
You thought you looked so cool, now you're feeling like a fool and that's fine

Is Soho far enough?
To show us that you're tough
Don't play us your new stuff
Play the old ones again
I've heard this tune before
But you're not really poor
Don't pretend you're on the dole

And your
Middle finger won't save rock and roll, oh no
You thought you looked so cool, now you're feeling like a fool and that's fine

And your middle finger won't save rock and roll, oh no
And your
Middle finger won't save rock and roll
You thought you felt the same but now you only feel the shame

Now you know
And your middle finger won't save rock and roll

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Middle" by Shock-Head express a sense of disillusionment and frustration towards the current state of rock music. The opening lines, "You'll drink what's on your mind, but I'll just keep mine" suggest a contrast between the artist's authentic thoughts and intentions, versus those who conform to what is popular or expected. The line "We won't play in time, cause it's cooler that way" implies a deliberate defiance against fitting into the mainstream.

The mention of "Photoshoot eyes, a sign in disguise, sights set on her thighs, that dead look on her face" paints a picture of a shallow and superficial music industry, where image and objectification take precedence over substance and authenticity. The artist critiques the industry's tendency to focus on sex, drugs, and cigarettes as themes, suggesting that these topics alone do not define true artistry or depth.

The lines "You haven't sold your soul" indicate that the artist believes they have remained true to their art, refusing to compromise their values for commercial success. The repeated phrase "And your middle finger won't save rock and roll" is a direct criticism towards those who adopt a rebellious attitude only for the sake of appearing cool or edgy. It suggests that simply being defiant and provocative does not inherently contribute to the preservation or salvation of the rock music genre.

The lyric "Is Soho far enough? To show us that you're tough, don't play us your new stuff, play the old ones again" further highlights the frustration with artists who abandon their roots and attempt to please the audience with new material that may lack authenticity. This implies a desire for the artist to remain true to their original sound and not succumb to pressure to conform or evolve in a way that compromises their artistic integrity.

Overall, "The Middle" serves as a critique of the music industry and the tendency for artists to prioritize image and trend-following over genuine artistic expression. It challenges the notion that rebellion and negativity alone can save rock and roll, emphasizing the importance of sincerity and a steadfast dedication to one's artistic vision.

Seit Monaten sage ich den Ärzten das sind keine Kopfschmerzen wie gewöhnlich, es brennt, ziept , piekst und macht mich wahnsinnig. Danke für dieses Video!!!!!

@Sagar_Tachtode_777

Thank you for removing the fear and helping to curb the pain

@MorbidGames666

Never thought of a solution so basic like this. I've only been able to diagnose this just recently. Never thought of it as an "issue". But this is an actual medical condition that really makes your life more stressful without even knowing. I massaged my scalp just now for the first time. I try to be as flexible as possible but I was shocked at how stiff my scalp was. Thanks so much and give your scalps some love people!

@suelewis9962

I have experienced this also and in fact some call these type of headaches ice pick headaches because it literally feels like someone is stabbing you in the head then the pain instantly goes away.
I just used this technique and it really worked. I also used peppermint oil to massage on the area of my scalp to help with the soreness of my scalp that was left from the stabbing/electric shock pain.
Thank you so much doctor for making this video.

@elenagonzalez3953

I been experiencing very strong stabbing pain and like electric shocks. It started in my early 20's and it was stabbing pain but not too strong and for a few seconds. I'm 52 now and the pain has gotten much, much stronger and more frequent even though it's for a few seconds but it comes and goes on and off. Like 15 years ago I went to two different neurologist's and they didn't believe or understood my pain. I was also having migraines which went away already but not the stabbing pain. It scares me so much and not my family or kids have taken me serious about this. Sometimes I think this is going to kill me one day. I am so happy I found this video because I know now I'm not alone and that there are other people going through the same thing. I will go to my doctor and show him this video so hopefully he will understand my pain and believe me. I have some hope now. Thank you so much.

@Liz-gr6tz

Elana, has the scalp massaging worked at all for you?

@johnmitchell2741
