In "Night & Day," Syd B expresses her frustration with a person who wants her attention but doesn't seem genuine in their approach. From the opening lines, "I feel like your best kept secret in town/Lord knows that you're running your mouth," she is indicating that this person is not being honest with her. When they're alone, they're vulnerable with her, but in public, they're different. She questions who this person is when they're not around her. Syd B is suggesting that this person is putting on a front or a facade.
Syd B also seems to be upset with how this person perceives her. The person tells her she's sweet, but Syd B thinks she's just "alright, alright, okay." Syd B is confident in herself and doesn't require the validation of someone who doesn't appreciate her for who she is.
