In The Gladiators' song "A True Rastaman", the lyrics speak of the principles and actions of a Rastafarian individual. The opening lines, "Rasta know it's true love can set the world free", suggest that love is the key to unity and peace in the world, a central belief of Rastafarianism. The repetition of this line emphasizes the importance of love in the Rastafarian mindset.
The song goes on to describe how a Rastafarian does not carry malice or grudges towards others, especially towards their fellow Rastafarians. Instead, they teach their "Idrens" (friends and community members) to not hate but to love. A Rastafarian is portrayed as someone who "plays fair in each game" and does not "double cross" others. This portrays the Rastafarian as an individual who operates with integrity and fairness.
The lyrics also emphasize that a Rastafarian loves everyone, regardless of their skin color, suggesting that they see all individuals as equal. Lastly, the final lines speak of how a Rastafarian does not carry malice towards others, whether they win or lose. This further accentuates their peaceful and non-violent nature.
