Roller Coaster Ride Memories

Between drunk and stoned
Feeling I'm a failure for all time
The smell of kerosene
Like burning flesh it swells
It's dried up in the heat
Can't stop them
It's a demon in the mirror
And I said ‘I know it's you'
Ignoring a voice calling me to wait
I don't wanna beg
I don't wanna cry
I don't wanna give up
My roller-coaster-ride memories never forget
You take a ride with me anywhere
All the way down
My roller-coaster-ride memories never forget
You take a ride with me anywhere
All the way down
In "Roller Coaster Ride Memories" by The HIATUS, the lyrics depict a moment of introspection and despair as the singer finds themselves stuck between two undesirable states of being: drunk and stoned. The feeling of being a failure "for all time" adds to their overwhelming sense of hopelessness. The mention of the smell of kerosene and its comparison to burning flesh creates a vivid and intense image. The singer mentions that the smell has dried up in the heat, signifying perhaps that the "burning" feeling they once had has faded away. However, they cannot stop the "demon in the mirror" and are forced to confront it, even if it means ignoring a voice telling them to wait. Ultimately, the singer expresses their unwillingness to give up despite feeling as though they've hit rock bottom.
The chorus of the song focuses on the theme of memories and how they persist even in the most tumultuous of times. The singer sings that their "roller-coaster-ride memories never forget" and invites someone to take a ride with them "all the way down." The roller coaster metaphor is an interesting one as it can symbolize the ups and downs of life and the feeling of being out of control.
Overall, "Roller Coaster Ride Memories" is a powerful and reflective song that deals with themes of depression, addiction, and the importance of memories.
