Ukelele Lady
the jug band Lyrics

On Honolulu Bay
There's something tender in the moonlight
On Honolulu Bay
And all the beaches are filled with peaches
Who bring their ukes along
And in the glimmer of the moonlight
If you like Ukulele Lady
Ukulele Lady like a'you
If you like to linger where it's shady
Ukulele Lady linger too
If you kiss Ukulele Lady
While you promise ever to be true
And she sees another Ukulele
Lady foolin' 'round with you
Maybe she'll sigh (an awful lot)
Maybe she'll cry (and maybe not)
Maybe she'll find somebody else
By and by
To sing to when it's cool and shady
Where the tricky wicky wacky woo
If you like Ukulele Lady
Ukulele Lady like a'you
She used to sing to me by moonlight
On Honolulu Bay
Fond memories cling to me by moonlight
Although I'm far away
Some day I'm going, where eyes are glowing
And lips are made to kiss
To see somebody in the moonlight
And hear the song I miss
If you like Ukulele Lady
Ukulele Lady like a'you
If you like to linger where it's shady
Ukulele Lady linger too
If you kiss Ukulele Lady
While you promise ever to be true
And she sees another Ukulele
Lady foolin' 'round with you.
Maybe she'll sigh (an awful lot)
Maybe she'll cry (and maybe not)
Maybe she'll find somebody else
By and by
To sing to when it's cool and shady
Where the tricky wicky wacky woo
If you like Ukulele Lady
Ukulele Lady like a'you
The lyrics of the Jug Band's song "Ukulele Lady" are full of imagery and nostalgia for the singer's memories of the beautiful moonlit nights on Honolulu Bay. The song describes the beaches filled with peaches (women) who bring their ukuleles along to sing and play music by the light of the moon. The singer invites the listener to join in and enjoy this romantic atmosphere, with the refrain "If you like Ukulele Lady, Ukulele Lady like a'you" suggesting that they could find their own special person to share these moments with.
However, the tone of the song takes a slightly melancholic turn in the second half, as the singer reminisces about his own past love who used to sing to him under the moonlight. He yearns to go back to Honolulu Bay and see the person he misses, but fears that she may have already moved on with someone else. Despite this sense of sadness, the overall mood of the song is one of nostalgia and romance, with the ukulele serving as a symbol of the simple pleasures of life and the beauty of nature.
Overall, "Ukulele Lady" is a charming and wistful tribute to a bygone era and a sense of longing for the beauty of the past. It captures the essence of a particular time and place, and reminds us of the universality of the desire for love and connection.

Was listening to this in college at a time when kids were listening to just about every genre of music. We'd go from Doo-Wop to Elvis, Bo Diddley, Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Beach Boys, Motown, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Jim Kweskin, Beatles, Stones, The Byrds, Yardbirds, Moody Blues, Chambers Brothers, Sly Stone, Crosby-Stills and Nash, Muddy Waters, Country and so on. Too many to mention. It didn't seem strange and it was a great time to be young and alive.
Still listening to them along with Sinatra, B.B., Etta J, Linda R., Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray, Hank Williams, Steve Earle, Movie Soundtracks, and many, many more. Now I'm a geezer and it's still great to be feeling young and being alive when I listen to these great talents.

grew up with jim. i know every song and i mean every song by heart. this might sound bad but it wasn't. but my father and uncle were big fans of jim and my uncle was in a bluegrass band, played banjo, guitar, and had band mates with all the rest come over. and i would hang out and listen. well that turned into my dad buying me a kazoo to play along with. and i would play jug on the empty 1.75 liter rum bottles that would accumulate. i can play any song to the key to this day on my kazoo and any jug you can find. hell i have thought to find a band that might need a jug player because i have not herd a jug played as well as the kweskin band does. and that is the jug playing i know. sorry for the long post.
