On y jouera, tu verras
(Emmène-moi, emmène-moi)
(Un jour) toucher à ci, toucher à ça
Voir si le cœur de la ville bat en moi
Et tu m'emmèneras
Emmène-moi
The lyrics to "New York City" by The Telephones paint a vivid picture of the singer's desire to experience the vibrancy and excitement of New York City alongside someone they care about. The song expresses a longing for adventure, freedom, and shared experiences. The singer dreams of spending nights roaming the city, partying, and not watching any movies in their entirety. They want to live a life that is both shared and fragmented, influenced by the hum of air conditioning and the worn-out hotel they imagine staying in. The lyrics also mention exploring the gay nightlife scene, observing bodies pressed together and hearts emptying and bleeding. The word "saigner" (to bleed) used repeatedly implies a willingness to embrace both the joys and the pains of such experiences.
The second verse continues with the singer fantasizing about having New York City at their fingertips, playing in clubs where it may be dark but never cold if one believes in the energy and spirit of the place. The lyrics suggest that the colors of the city, like paint splatters on walls, can sometimes reflect the sounds one consumes. The vastness of the city is emphasized, implying that it has the power to make one forget where they belong. Yet, despite this transient quality, the song yearns for a sense of belonging and being part of something bigger.
Overall, "New York City" captures the longing for adventure, the pursuit of shared experiences, and the allure of a city that promises excitement, but also the potential for feeling lost and disconnected. It explores the dichotomy of the dream and the reality of living in such a vibrant and chaotic place.

I just wanted to comment with the lyrics because I was looking for them:
The world can be so cold,
no time to share the time.
You make new friends then lose the old.
So much lost until you find...
We're all connected--
don't let your friendships slip away.
We're all connected--
that's when a call can make a day
You've got to make the choice
to share your heart, to share your voice.
We're all connected--
in a lonely world, you're not alone.
We're all connected.

Wowwwwww,, this video just blew minds! How the heck a 90s telephone commercial got deeper than 99% of all music today??

It's crazy but you're right.....
Can appreciate the commercial now more than I did back then. I miss the '80s and '90s.

I certainly remember this advertisement from the early 1990s! Shortly after deciding to look for a clip of it on YouTube, I do find it! Ah, memories ...
