Cruel
theheadandtheheart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't seem to find no peace anymore.
I'll come out of this, out of this.
Everywhere I turn there seems to be another war.
We'll come out of this, out of this.

Nothing's gone right,
I'm at my wit's end.
I swear I'll come out of this, out of this.
You're losing your mind
No hope in sight
Promise you out of this.

Like the wind in the trees,
A cool summer breeze,
Like the curls in your hair,
Everyone stares at
The hole in the wall,
It's all in your head.
There's a memory there,
All through night.
Tried being cruel,
It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
Oh, tried being cruel,
It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
It's just not in me.

Now that we've come to the end
Find that we're right where we began

Now that we've come to the end
Find that we're right where we began

Now that we've come to the end
Find that we're right where we began

Now that we've come to the end
Find that we're right where we began

Tried being cruel,
It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
Oh, tried being cruel,
It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
Oh, tried being cruel,
It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
Oh, tried being cruel,

It's just not in me, it's just not in you.
It's just not in me.

Overall Meaning

Theheadandtheheart's song "Cruel" speaks to the struggles of trying to find peace in a world that is filled with chaos and conflict. The lyrics suggest that the singer is going through a tough time, as nothing seems to be going right and they feel like they are losing their mind. They express a desire to come out of this situation, to find hope and peace again. Throughout the song, there is a sense of struggle and tension, with the repeated chorus "tried being cruel, it's just not in me, it's just not in you." The singer recognizes that being cruel is not the answer to their problems, and that they must find a different way to deal with the struggles they face. The latter half of the song repeats the line "now that we've come to the end, find that we're right where we began," suggesting that despite their efforts to find peace, they are still stuck in the same place and facing the same struggles.

The song seems to be exploring themes of mental health, self-doubt, and the struggle to find a sense of inner peace. The repeated refrain of "I'll come out of this, out of this" suggests that the singer is trying to hold on to hope, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. The "hole in the wall" mentioned in the second verse could be interpreted as a metaphor for the brokenness the singer feels inside themselves. Overall, the lyrics seem to be conveying a message of hope and resilience, even in the face of difficult circumstances.

One of the best records I've ever heard, front to back. This song is amazing and definitely my favorite up there with Another Story.

Tyler McPhail

another story is also one of my favorites if not my favorite. I just got here so I haven't hard the complete thing of this yet but I bet I'll like it I like the majority of their songs.

I saw them in concert a number of years ago. I've honestly almost never seen a better performance in my life, and I've seen hundreds. I'll never forget hearing this song for the first time... from the band. I had no idea who they were. The whole crowd bawled their eyes out. Grown, rough looking men, crying and hugging. I've never seen or experienced something like that, besides maybe a death cab for cutie, or local natives show had a similar effect. Besides that, I've never had a similar, profound feeling like that, in any other activity or event in life. This changed me, and continues to influence me. God bless you, the head and the heart...
