Back to You

sometimes… (garbled) In the last… (garbled) …over the city…"
Gonna bring it back to you
I never turned by back to you
I remember what you said and what I promised you
Took a while to learn the truth
I believe that I've been compromising a moral attitude
Compromising, compromising, compromising a moral attitude
No surprises, not for me
Everytime the mobile rings
Always wantin' what I can't offer
I'm just as good as mobile phon-ar
Information comes to me
Especially that which I don't need
Turns around my mind and awaken day
And all night long you lost my sleep
Still you're sittin' and stare at me
Without a question, no intention for the present
No progression from this situation
Just oceans of misinformation
Oceans, oceans
Oceans of misinformation
I said now is there no, compromise?
Can anybody show them, how to compromise?
Compromising
Compromising
Compromising
Ooh
Keep 'em comin' back to you
Still they're rushin' back to you
Till there's nothing left to see and now our will is true
Gonna bring it back to you
Pray let me back to you
And believe that it's all right; it's all your attitude
Ohhh-ahhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Ooooooo
Ahhhh-ahhh-ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
"(Garbled) …right now and remember the victims of last week…"
The lyrics to thenewno2's "Back to You" seem to deal with the feeling of being overwhelmed by media and information – both that which is necessary to know and that which is incessant and seemingly pointless. The opening lines reference the bombing, which can be interpreted as the breaking news cycle and how it can overtake a person's thoughts to the point where they cannot see the present moment clearly. The chorus, then, becomes a plea to return to something concrete – in this case, a person or a relationship. The singer promises to come back to this person and remember what they said, reinforcing the idea that there needs to be something tangible to cling to in the midst of chaos.
The middle section of the song, which repeats "compromising a moral attitude," speaks to the idea that constantly being inundated with information can wear down one's sense of right and wrong. The line "Information comes to me especially that which I don't need," highlights the fact that the singer is not seeking out the news – it's coming to them whether they like it or not. This proliferation of information leads to loss of sleep and renders the public reactive rather than proactive. In the end, the singer asks a question – "Can anybody show them how to compromise?" – suggesting that perhaps a balance can be struck between being informed and being overwhelmed.
