Polarize
twenty one pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me down
Those stairs is where I'll be hiding all my problems
Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I, we got a lot of problems

You know where I'm coming from
Though I am running to you
All our feelings deny, deny, denial, oh

I wanted to be a better brother, better son
Wanted to be a better adversary to the evil I have done
I have none to show to the one I love
But deny, deny, denial, oh

Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me down
Those stairs is where I'll be hiding all my problems
Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I, we got a lot of problems

Polarize is taking your disguises
Separating 'em, splitting 'em up from wrong and right
It's deciding where to die and deciding where to fight
Deny, deny, denial

I wanted to be a better brother, better son
Wanted to be a better adversary to the evil I have done
I have none to show to the one I love
But deny, deny, denial, oh

Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me down
Those stairs is where I'll be hiding all my problems
Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I, we got a lot of problems

We have problems
We have problems

Domingo en fuego
I think I lost my halo
I don't know where you are
You'll have to come and find me, find me
Domingo en fuego
I think I lost my halo
I don't know where you are
You'll have to come and find me, find me

We have problems
We have problems

Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I have problems
Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I have problems

Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I have problems
Help me polarize, help me polarize, help me out
My friends and I have problems

We have problems
We have problems

I wanted to be a better brother, better son

I wanted to be a better brother, better son
I wanted to be a better brother, better son

Overall Meaning

The song "Polarize" by Twenty One Pilots talks about the struggles and challenges that the singer faces in his life. He is hoping for assistance in understanding his feelings and processing his issues. The repeated line "help me polarize" combines the idea of emotional separation with polar opposites, suggesting the need to sort and understand the singer's conflicting feelings. He acknowledges that he and his friends have a lot of problems which they are trying to deal with but cannot fully admit to themselves or others.

The lyrics repeatedly use the phrase "deny, deny, denial", which suggests the inability of the singer to face and confront his problems. He wants to be a better brother and son, but cannot do so unless he acknowledges the evil he has done in the past. The chorus repeats the theme of asking for help to separate oneself from problems, and finding a way to move forward positively.

The Spanish phrase "Domingo en fuego" means "Sunday on fire" which implies that something is burning inside the singer. He feels as though he has lost his halo and needs to be found again. The song ends with the repeating idea that "we have problems", suggesting that everyone faces their own struggles in life that they need to confront.

Here lemme write the lyrics for you:

Help me polarize, help me polarize,
Help me down,
Those stairs is where I’ll be hiding all my problems,
Help me polarize, help me polarize,
Help me out,
My friends and I, we’ve got a lot of problems.

You know where I’m coming,
From though I am running,
To you, all I feel is deny, deny, denial,
I wanted to be a better brother, better son,
Wanted to be a better adversary to the evil I have done,
I have none to show to the one I love,
But deny, deny, denial.

Help me polarize, help me polarize,
Help me down,
Those stairs is where I’ll be hiding all my problems,
Help me polarize, help me polarize,
Help me out,
My friends and I, we’ve got a lot of problems.

Polarize is taking your disguises,
Separating them, splitting them up from wrong and right,
It’s deciding where to die and deciding where to fight,
Deny, deny, denial.

Domingo en fuego, I think I lost my halo,
I don’t know where you are,
You’ll have to come and find me, find me.

Help me polarize, help me polarize,
Help me out,
My friends and I have problems.

I wanted to be a better brother, better son.

Okay, let me have a moment to mentally recover from how awesome this song is. takes deep breath

Yep, I'm good now! Anyway, did Tyler just say "Domingo en fuego"? Because:

1.He just literally said "Sunday on fire" in Spanish.

2.He pronounced it really well, no, he pronounced it perfectly!

And 3. ASDFGHJKL TYLER JUST SPOKE IN SPANISH!1!!1! JOSH, GET THE CAMERA! TYLER IS BILINGUAL ! (Okay, maybe not, but you get the idea.)

Also, did anyone else craft when they heard the Blurryface album? Did anyone else listen to every song on the album today when they uploaded them to YouTube and then craft? No, just me? Ok, fine.

Haven’t seen a comment about this, so thought I’d add:
To me, Polarize is about how we keep our thoughts and feelings disconnected from our actions. We often need to act happy for other people around us or in order to fit in with society.
The “weird problems” part has always hit home for me. Sometimes it’s really difficult to explain what you feel to others or you believe you don’t deserve to complain since other people have it worse.
The “I think I lost my halo” part refers to Tyler finally accepting he has issues, and it’s ok to acknowledge that. He’s no longer a perfect, innocent facade.

Anyone agree?
Thanks for reading friends.
