The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
Hold On To My Love

It was easy to see that you'd been crying
Seems like everywhere you turn catastrophe it reigns
But who really profits from the dying
I could hold you in my arms
I could hold you forever
I could hold you in my arms
I could hold you in my arms forever
When you kissed my lips with my mouth so full of questions
It's my worried mind that you quiet
Place your hands on my face
Close my eyes and say
Love is a poor man's food
Don't prophesize
I could hold you in my arms
I could hold you forever
And I could hold you in my arms
I could hold you forever
So now we see how it is
This fist begets the spear
Weapons of war
Symptoms of madness
Don't let your eyes refuse to see
Don't let your ears refuse to hear
Or you ain't never going to shake this sense of sadness
I could hold you in my arms
I could hold on forever
And I could hold you in my arms
I could hold forever
The Various Artists' song 'In My Thoughts' is a beautiful ode to love, comfort, and compassion. The lyrics talk about how the singer's lover came to them with bad dreams and fears, and despite the chaos and destruction all around them, they find comfort in each other's arms. The singer proclaims that they could hold their lover forever, offering protection and safety from the turmoil of the world.
The second verse talks about how the lover's kiss is enough to quiet the singer's worried mind, and the act of physically touching and holding each other brings solace to both. The lyrics take a political turn in the third verse, where the singer talks about the futility of war and the madness that it creates. They urge their listeners to break free from the propaganda of war and seek peace and love instead. The song ends on a positive note, with the singer once again reiterating their promise to hold their lover forever.
Overall, Various Artists' 'In My Thoughts' is a poignant reminder of the power of love and compassion in the face of adversity. The lyrics convey a sense of hope and the promise of a better tomorrow, even in times of great despair.

Essa melodia, assim como "Run Away" da Loleatta Holloway e "The Love I Lost" do Harold Melvin, traduz de uma só tacada, toda a essência do que um dia foi a DISCO-MUSIC. Época mágica...

As an original member of the Saint who was fortunate to be there on both the opening and closing nights, Hold on to My Love was always my FAVORITE! Robbie Leslie always played this near the end of the night and it became the unofficial Theme Song of that incredible experience that was the Saint. Thank you, Jimmy and Robbie, for your amazing talent and your contribution to Gay NY nightlife at the Saint that can NEVER be replicated.

I was there for this last song, the closing morning. Only time I was at the Saint as I lived in San Francisco. It was amazing, glad I got to experience it. Never saw so many beautiful men in one place.
