Iscariot
walkthemoon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Until now, I knew this of myself
That if you had thrown yourself down
Into the lion's den
My brother I'd follow you in
Perhaps I lack some foresight (should have known)
Brother you were so right
Sure as the setting sun
Can't trust just anyone

That's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking, but you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had, but you don't have it any more
You had it coming

I never imagined you dead (I never)
But tell me, are you even aware
That all that we did, you undo
Iscariot, you fool

That's what you want, but it's not what you're asking for
I said that's what you're asking, but you're gonna get more than you bargained for
I said that's what you had, but you don't have it any more
You had it coming

Oh you know you had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother
Had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother
Had it coming my friend, my friend
You know you had it coming my brother, oh my brother

Had it coming my friend, my friend
You had it coming.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Walk the Moon's song "Iscariot" explore betrayal and consequences. The singer talks about following a friend or brother into a dangerous situation despite his own reservations. He admits to lacking foresight and trusting too easily, and realizes too late that his friend was "right" about not trusting just anyone. The chorus repeats the idea that the friend had it coming, indicating that they were responsible for their own downfall.

The use of the name "Iscariot" is interesting as it is a reference to Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus in the Bible. The name has become synonymous with betrayal and treachery, which fits the theme of the song. The lyrics suggest that the friend was aware of what they were getting into, and that they had done something to deserve their own downfall. The repetition of "my friend, my brother" adds an emotional weight to the song, indicating that the betrayal is particularly painful because of the closeness of the relationship.

At the risk of being incredibly superficial and bypassing the absolute perfection of Walk the Moon...That man right there is beautiful.

Wow. I'm watching this man lip sing into the camera in a badly lit airport yet it's one of the more powerful experiances I've had musically. The melody combined with his intensity create something you could drown in.

***** Yeah, she's exaggerating a bit. However, the song is a bit personal for some, especially considering the subject matter. I think that may be where people are getting the "powerful" adjective from.

@97javic

It's powerful. There's no other word for it. She's right

He's on mine, I think he's attempting to "troll" but he's not doing a very good job.
