He began rapping in 2017 as Lil Yeat, and, after a slew of singles, released his first EP, Deep Blue Strips, in late 2018. In 2019, Yeat would gain further publicity after “Stay Up,” the lead single off his second project and first mixtape, Wake Up Call, received a music video on the popular YouTube channel ELEVATOR.
Smith released Different Creature, a collaborative EP with Dutch producer Clibbo, on July 18, 2019, to positive feedback. Yeat garnered further attention after dropping his second mixtape, I’m So Me, at the conclusion of the year, collaborating with popular producers like Wheezy, Brandon Finessin, and 10Fifty, among others. Yeat continued to gain traction throughout 2020, releasing two EPs meant to hold fans over until Different Creature 2. The project was scrapped as he worked through label issues before becoming independent in 2021.
Fully in control of his output, Yeat began releasing a barrage of music, including twenty-track albums and countless singles. Yeat saw a major jump in support after his song “Sorry Bout That” blew up on TikTok. Subsequent hits like “Money Twerk” and “Get Busy” as well as a shout-out from Drake helped reinforce his newfound success. On August 5, 2021, Yeat released his newest EP, Trëndi.
In late 2021, Yeat would release his most popular album Up 2 Më and then would later drop 2 Älive and its deluxe, 2 Alivë (Geëk Pack)
On September 9th, 2022, Yeat dropped his highly anticipated EP, Lyfë, which had a feature from Lil Uzi Vert and collaborations with producers such as BNYX and collective Working On Dying.
On February 19th, 2023, Yeat posted a tracklist for Lyfë's deluxe version AftërLyfe on his Instagram story. On February 24th, 2023, AftërLyfe was released with a feature from YoungBoy Never Broke Again and more collaborations with BNYX, Working On Dying, dulio and more prominent producers.

Which one you want? (Yeah), I think I'm 'bout to tweak
Know it's weighin' on your mind, it's weighin' as we speak (yeah)
You say, "It's all fine," but it was bad last week (week)
You say you wanna talk as we speak
You say you wanna walk, move them feet (feet)
Lay 'em down in chalk, dead in the street (yeah)
Always lose my mind (yeah)
Put it on the limelight, put it on her head right
Conscious on the bedside (yeah), not a phone in sight
All we call is the night (yeah), oh, you wanna feel? Alright
I'ma show you how to feel (yeah), but I'll tell you this first
Last supper was my meal, I need blood to converse
Wipe my hands of the deal (yeah), put it in a hearse
(Yeah)
Worse come to worst, put it on a verse, put it on the moon
Worse come worst, I don't want the words, I want ya room
First come first, but come first, yeah, and I'll serve you
They all want the new me, but I want the old you
Tell me what you did, put in on the light
I am down to rage, I am down to fight (yeah, yeah)
All you ever do is ride it like a bike
What come first? Everything worse (woo)
Everything worse
Take a break first
'Fore you get heated, 'fore you get worse (yeah)
I can't put it into words but I do it first (look)
Shout to Big Boat, I'm so concrete
Just made ten mil' as we speak (yeah)
Like snow to the 6ix, like sand to the beach
She wanna bring her friend, girl, I got no backseat, fuck (ooh)
Back in America, fuckin' a hoe from the ratchetest area, what?
Spanish hoes love me, they talk to me like I'm from Latin America, what?
We know your girl, she get tossed in the circle like Captain America, what?
You boys are jokin', it's actually embarrassin'
Me and Lil Twizzy's just slappin' in Maryland (uh)
Losses I took but like, "Fuck it, oh well"
Really can't even spell ball with no L's
They love to act like they hot on my trail
Thought he was big 'til I got on the scale
My nigga flicked up with an Owl chain on in the Range
Don't know how he got it in jail (woo, woo)
Don't know
No idea, no idea
Don't know, don't know
Don't know (I'm back again, yeah)
Let the money come first, let the money converse
We got billion dollar money, which one first?
I could put you in this building, I could give you much worse
I could tear it all down, make a huff and puff hurt
And you cheaper than some dirt
I'll make this shit hurt
Yeah, take you to the edge
And push you off the Earth
And all I wanna see is somethin'
And all I wanna feel is somethin'
As we speak, it's not for discussion
Time again, you always bluffin'
Yeah, you always bluffin', you always
Hidin' in your roots, hidin' in your lies, always somethin' and
Don't wanna tell the truth, you won't tell them all what you told me, yeah
Yeah, I'ma sit around and I'ma hide, yeah, 'til you find me, yeah
In the first section of the lyrics to yeat's song "As We Speak," the artist describes a scenario where they have been overseas, specifically in Palermo by the beach. The discussion seems to involve a decision on something with the line "Which one you want?" hinting at a choice or decision that needs to be made. The artist mentions feeling a sense of internal conflict or unease, as indicated by the line "Know it's weighin' on your mind, it's weighin' as we speak." Despite attempting to reassure the other person by saying "It's all fine," the artist acknowledges that things were not good the previous week. There's a desire expressed for communication and action with lines like "You say you wanna talk as we speak" and "You say you wanna walk, move them feet."
The mood shifts as the artist delves into a more introspective and intense theme in the second paragraph. The lyrics touch on issues of self-perception, presentation on social media, and a desire for deep human connection. The artist seems to be grappling with contradictions and the need for authenticity in a world filled with superficiality. The line "Always lose my mind" could suggest a sense of confusion or feeling overwhelmed amidst societal pressures. There's a hint of mortality and consequences with the mention of laying down in chalk and putting something in a hearse. The artist is contemplating their own actions and perhaps seeking redemption or understanding.
In the third section, the lyrics take on a more assertive and confrontational tone as the artist discusses financial success and power dynamics. There's a sense of authority and control as the artist talks about making decisions that can impact others and showing a willingness to assert dominance if necessary. The metaphor of taking someone to the edge and pushing them off the Earth conveys a sense of ruthlessness and a willingness to do what's necessary to achieve goals. The lines "And all I wanna see is somethin'" and "And all I wanna feel is somethin'" could indicate a yearning for genuine experiences and emotions amidst a backdrop of material wealth and influence.
Finally, the closing part of the lyrics appears to touch on themes of evasion, concealment, and confrontation within relationships. The artist seems to be grappling with issues of honesty and deception, alluding to hidden truths and a reluctance to reveal certain aspects of oneself. There's a sense of vulnerability and a search for identity and connection as the artist contemplates hiding until they are discovered. The repetition of "Don't know" reflects a state of uncertainty or ambiguity surrounding various aspects of life and relationships. The lyrics convey a complex mix of emotions, from introspection and assertiveness to vulnerability and a search for authenticity and connection.
