Dj Lyf was born in Pico Rivera, CA. Months later his mother took him to her home state of N.Y., N.J. for a some years and then back to L.A. to be with a family member that was needing her help. Choosing to stay and only visiting back east years in between, Pasadena, CA. known as Dena a suburb of (L.A.), was his hometown K-12 to college. Being a bi-coastal person influenced his early music years, from Hip Hop to Classic funk, R&B, and early electronic production in the 80's. Lyf started out with the love of wax, records were a magical part of his young life and connected him with the artist and flowered his dreams of expression to travel with the minds of change.
Using all skills of any kind LYF chose
beat boxing, live drums, piano/ keys, midi elements, Mac’s, PC’s, Analog, digital equipment, ASR- 10 is my first love next to the SP-1200, and my new peace the MPC- 2500 but, really all the
models have a good time stamp that works depending on the mood of the track, and they all have a good bump in of themselves. So, always recording regardless of the red button being pressed. He feels recording is one of the most magical processes that he knows and besides the grand canyon or fossils findings, is an art with in it self. So never mind the equipment, keep recording. Four track or hand held recorder for little to nothing at any local music store don't stop the (RE~CORDING) process from going on. "ONE CORD AT A TIME".
Growing up in Pasadena, CA. is where he crafted his craft of sound uniting with other talented artist from painters, and musicians, he joined and created many art collectives as PFC- Pasadena Fresh Crew in 1986. The Spot in middle 80's, and 360 posse to name a few he was connected to in a big way. Going to school to be a radio & telecommunications major indeed up leaving since not much was new to learn since already working in big studio's by 16 later just traveled producing futurist tracks that revolutionized hip hop and music in general to this day.
Good music falls in many genres he feels. He loves making elements that tickle the inner mind/ frequencies that move my spine. Colorful, memorable events for a spiritual journey's in us all. Taking it slow, and in the same breath (ALOHA), speeding it up. It's in some double time, sometimes triple time, 1/2 step, becomes a jazzy, dub-step, roots of the underground existing elements. There's no name for it really, you just feel it, and move to it. Its pure, its LYF!
