The first mention of NO STYLIST would date all the way back to a tweet from March 2020, where he teased the mixtape as a “mini project”:
"after underworld imma give yall a mini project called no stylist nd imma give yall niggas swag nd let yall play wit it den disappear"
Lonely spoke about the direction of NO STYLIST in his September 2021 interview with Our Generation Music:
"It’s like… I don’t feel like I got a point to prove, but I wanna be able to break away from however niggas feel about me and show people that I can actually… I could create some real shit. Like, cause on No Stylist, I’m tryna make… I don’t wanna say the most different shit, I don’t wanna be like the most different nigga, I’m tryna go left field. But I wanna make something that’s different from what’s being created right now in my own way just to show niggas like… I’m like that, you know what I’m saying? I can make real music, I can just do anything else, you know what I’m saying, something else. I just wanna show niggas I can do the other shit, you feel me?"
After leaving the mixtape’s status entirely in the dark, it was released on August 12, 2022, eight months after the last mention — with absolutely no promotion.
