Produced early in his musical career, the EP was intended as both promotional and supplemental to Bay Area rockers Diamond Lane and their debut album "Cut to the Chase". After completing the four tracks Stephen took the final product to the band, who were extremely impressed at the reinterpretation of their own material. The EP never saw a proper release, but two tracks were featured on Diamond Lane's MySpace page for small-time exposure. It draws heavily on the sampling and beat influences from Meat Beat Manifesto and The Downward Spiral-era remixes of Nine Inch Nails. This is most prevalent in "Empty Eyes (Blinded by Reality)", which features samples from the film "Fight Club" (a film greatly admired by both Escobedo and Brandon Baumann, lead singer of Diamond Lane) to add depth and interpretation to the lyrics found on the album version of the track. While the EP is short, the tracks showcase the range of Pushing Reality's production and established the attitude that would serve as the baseline for later works: to be fearless and dynamic in the pursuit of artistic interpretation and expression with each and every track.
