The band was founded after both Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi put their solo bands on hiatus to form a new group that lets the married couple focus on making music together, and allows them to spend more time together while touring and recording. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have toured together in 2007, under the name Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival, however this group's material was largely culled from Derek & Susan's solo projects, while the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band mostly focuses on performing original songs.
After the announcement in late 2009 of a hiatus for both The Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi Band , the couple began writing new material, working out of their home studio in Jacksonville with a rotating cast of friends and musicians. Their first concert was on April 1, 2010 at the Savannah Music Festival, and although their touring schedule was limited in 2010, the group did perform at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival, Fuji Rock Festival, and several other festivals and venues.
The collaboration between Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi has also extended to other artists. Trucks and Tedeschi appeared together on Herbie Hancock's album, The Imagine Project, performing the track "Space Captain" with additional members of Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, including Oteil Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge, and Mike Mattison. A music video was also released, showing Herbie Hancock as he recorded the song at Trucks & Tedeschi's home studio. Trucks and Tedeschi also appeared with Herbie Hancock to perform "Space Captain" at his 70th birthday concerts at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
On 7 March 2011, the band announced that it was changing its name to the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The first Tedeschi Trucks Band CD, Revelator, will be released on June 7th 2011.

Made Up Mind
Tedeschi Trucks Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Wishing you could pull up the vine
And I'm wearing my Romeo flowers
Just being my made of mind
I know you lack of all in my garden
Apple yourself a big bouquet
You can spell them I know
It's just like I told you
I'm in a higher place
I got a made up mind
I got a made up mind
And you're thinking about it all the time
You're all fine
I got a made up mind
Well you better see me out on a contest
Cause you lost me at the crossroad sign
Year that was an old man
Now you can't hold me
All cause of this made up mind
Yeah you're looking for me up in the basement
You can look down in the Milky Way
Oh halla my name and I won't hear you
Cause I'm in a higher place
I got a made up mind
I got a made up mind
And you're thinking about it all the time
You're all fine
And I got a made up mind
I'm going higher
I'm not afraid
Licking my finger
Trilling the page
Oh I got a made up mind
Always be there up all the time
Sure as the moon as the stars gonna rise
I got a made up mind
I got a made up mind
Some made up mind
I got a made up mind oh oh
Oh, oh
Now this all be over
And my mind is made up
I got it made up
I got it made up
The opening line of "Made Up Mind" by Tedeschi Trucks Band seems to suggest that the singer is being watched, as they comment on someone wanting to "see in my window" and "pull up the vine." These actions hint at a sense of invasion of privacy and a desire for control, but the singer seems confident and unafraid, as evidenced by their declaration of having a "made up mind." The chorus further solidifies this sense of determination, with the repeated refrain of having a "made up mind" and being secure in that decision.
The second verse has a more confrontational tone, with the singer indicating that their opposition (presumably the person mentioned in the first verse) may have lost their chance by not acting sooner ("you lost me at the crossroad sign"). The reference to an "old man" may be a metaphor for an outdated or stagnant mindset that no longer has any power over the singer. In the following lines, the singer continues to emphasize their distance from the other person, both in terms of physical location ("look down in the Milky Way") and emotional state ("I won't hear you"). The final repetition of "I got a made up mind" seems to be a declaration of triumph and independence, indicating that the singer has successfully established themselves as their own authority.
Overall, "Made Up Mind" appears to be a song about self-assurance and breaking free from external pressures. The lyrics suggest a sense of defiance in the face of someone who may once have had a hold over the singer, but this opposition is ultimately rendered powerless. The singer's firmness of purpose is emphasized by the repeated refrain of having a "made up mind," indicating a decisiveness that cannot be swayed.
