He was born Alex Laygo to Filipino parents in Okinawa, Japan. Alexen grew up in Asia, in Calamba City, Philippines and Okinawa, Japan.
Alexen fell in love with dance music in his teens. His music career was inspired by his uncle, Jojo Alejar, who is dancer, singer and actor in Manila. Music became his passion after the loss of his mother in 2005.
Alexen entered the Los Angeles music scene in 2006 with his debut single “Come On and Dance”. His first live appearance was at Taxi’s Road Rally in the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles in November 2006. He was the featured artist on the radio station, Studio 42 Radio Live, for the latter part of 2007.
“Come On and Dance” is a real mood lifter, combining an electrifying high-energy beat with psychedelic synthesizers and catchy lyrics that will linger in your mind long after you’ve finished listening to his CD.
As an electro-pop artist, his work bears comparison with Erasure, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Robert Miles, Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderon and other enduring electronica artists.
