Real Hip-Hop comes from the soul.” This is one of the many quotes concerning true Hip-Hop that The Cable Car Stars live by. You see, whether you slip the headphones over your ears, attend one of their soul-filled sets, or simply click a link to their world-wide Myspace Music page, you’re definitely in for something more than sippin champagne and twenties on the floor. As Magik*, D’Mize, R-Tistik, and Rasikh make up The Cable Car Stars, they strive for truth in Hip-Hop and for bringing back a soulful and lyrical sound to the now sluggish and money crazed culture. As one of the most well known and rapidly growing groups, the mighty CCS crew holds their underground Hip-Hop style at a national level.
Originally from the Bay Area, California, The Cable Car Stars hooked up in early 2005. Rasikh and Magik* formerly known as JuRasikh Park decided that they needed to take they’re musical careers up a notch and decided that expanding the group with a fresh face and beginning would be the best way to do so. D’Mize and R-Tistik of The Allies had similar thoughts on they’re minds. After a handful of summer meetings with several emcees, the four felt a musical chemistry between each other and saw a promising future ahead of them as a unified group. With JuRasikh Park and The Allies behind them, Magik*, D’Mize, R-Tistik, and Rasikh collectively became known as The Cable Car Stars. The four talented high-school emcees felt that it was their love for real Hip-Hop that brought them together and that it was real Hip-Hop that should be portrayed through their music.
As the four put pens and rhymebooks together, they hit their home-studio day and night multi-tasking as scholarly students progressing toward finishing the compiling of their first self produced project. As the Bay Area was currently at the height of the world renown Hyphy Movement, CCS was more than influenced and felt that they needed to contribute. With their high energy hit single “Hyphy Like Me” banging out the speakers of home stereos, street scrapers, multiple clubs, and the occasional spin from Bay Area stations KMEL and KYLD, The Cable Car Stars had successfully paved a road for their real objective of taking the mainstream rap scene and injecting lyricism and real Hip-Hop back into the beautiful culture. With a solid foundation of supporters, networking, and promotion, the mighty CCS crew released their first LP mixtape “Shine Bright” and hundreds of buyers quickly realized what The Cable Car Stars were truly about and agreed that the plastic disc was worthy of being spun in CD players, car decks, and boomboxes of hundreds of real and evolving Hip-Hop heads everywhere in the Bay Area.
With the partnership and support of Underworld Productions, The Cable Car Stars took their single “Hyphy Like Me” to the Bay Area’s most popular clubs for live performances and rocked shows like no other and continued to expand their fanbase in the Summer of 2006. With the current release of the first single “Missing Love” featuring The Pnoy Voice off their 2nd project currently in production, they are currently performing at shows all around The Bay on their hefty list of bookings along with the gifted Mister DJ B-EZ backing up the group on the 1’s and 2’s. With the lively and soulful sounds, fresh kicks stepping around the stage, and in-depth lyricism, a CCS show is an event not to be missed. The Cable Car Stars place musicianship and Hip-Hop far above fame, money, and power and love to spread the culture and give back to the community and can be frequently spotted at charity functions rocking sets with no intention of receiving a paycheck but for intentions of infecting hundreds at a time with the revival of soul and lyricism within Hip-Hop culture.
Along with the all too talented production of Dr. CSK, Tha Go-Gettaz, DJ Icewater, and CCS’s very own Magik*, the CCS crew is currently diligently producing and recording their second mixtape yet to be titled at Soundwave Studios in Oakland and in their home studio. Different from their first mixtape, the current project has the sound of more lyrical and smooth vibe Hip-Hop more than anything. With each group member attending colleges up and down the west coast, a late Summer release is expected with continued performances throughout the year. The Cable Car Stars love Hip-Hop and hope that people around the globe will feel the same way as they continue to spread love and soul.
