The special thing about them is the identity of the members. No one knows their real identity, since they always appear disguised. Only thing known about them is that they are/were all active in respectively the rock genre (MC Hoop), jazz genre (Gebaar) and electronic genre (DJ Speck). They met on the internet and also became popular through this medium.
'De Hoop' released a video on youtube which made them rather famous. The song is called 'Waar is de meisje'. Since it has been uploaded, the views have been going up exponentially.
People claim that 'De Hoop' is a cry to draw attention to some problems in the music industry nowadays. The fact that rock, jazz and electro artists team up in a hiphop/rap collective is, according to some people, a way to make clear how easy it is to get noticed as hiphop artist and how much work other genres have to get appreciated these days.
Also, the collective itself claims that they want to stay anonymous because they don't want people to link the music to their faces or former projects. They want the music to be judged, not the persons behind the music. This might be a subtle complaint about the so-called 'hit machines', where it's not about the music, but about the person making the music.
'De Hoop' is working on their debut album as we speak.
Influences are: Herbie Hancock, Hudson Mohawke, Beastie Boys and MC Lyte
