Wait For Life
Emile Haynie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Why you make me work so hard
To put on that evening show?
When you know that all I want
Is to make your money grow?

You're like a baby who don't got nowhere to go
I feel you eyeing me, you keep it on the low
(On the low, on the low)

But I can't let you in
And I can't keep you out
I wait for life to win
But it never comes around
And I can't hear you call
And I can't hear me shout
I wait for it to break
But it never comes around

Don't know me
I'm lonely
I'm lonely

Why you make me take that shit
To put on that evening show
When you know I don't need it
Better than your booze and blow?

You're like a baby, don't know better, you don't know
You drag me down, you try to keep it on the low

But I can't let you in
And I can't keep you out
I wait for life to win
But it never comes around
And I can't hear you call
And I can't hear me shout
I wait for it to break
But it never comes around

Feel like I'm falling apart
Feel like I'm falling apart
Feel like I'm falling apart

Would you tell me?
Would you tell me?
Would you tell me?

But I can't let you in
And I can't keep you out
I wait for life to win
But it never comes around
And I can't hear you call
And I can't hear me shout
I wait for it to break
But it never comes around

Don't know me
I'm lonely
I'm lonely

Overall Meaning

The opening stanza of Emile Haynie's song "Wait For Life" questions the necessity of putting in a lot of effort to create a showy display while the speaker only desires to increase the money they receive. The next line likens their counterpart to an aimless child, but this person continually keeps their intentions hidden. The speaker can't allow them in, and they can't keep them out, seeking a life of victory that never arrives, unable to hear anything when they call or shout. The second stanza is similar to the first but uses harsher language to describe the speaker's sense of being dragged down. Despite the feeling of falling apart and the desire for aid, there is a repeated acknowledgment of being lonely while ultimately accepting that no break will arrive.

so sad this isn’t on spotify anymore

Lea

@Effy for real and the fact that they took the time to answer the same shit on every comment asking why the song was taken off spotify is even more delusional

Effy

@Lea No forreal they are MAKING SHIT UP. They literally said in other comments and in the above that they are "doubling down" on their theory. Like what.....

Thats not how things work, words arent suddenly racist just because they sound similar to other words in existence. This is the biggest and most idiotic display of "i misunderstood something, but im gonna double down and make that your problem" ive ever seen

Exactly

Frog_ Prince

Lana's my consistent companion during my depression years, it was the Born to die era and I struggle with her music in my ears that's why I love her from the depths of mt aching heart and wounded soul.

Norbi Kamantigue

She is the only artist I know who can make her lyrics, harmony, moods, melody and score reflect the true meaning and essence of the song. She takes me places I've never been before.
