The product of an unexpectedly successful jam session in early 2006, Head and Neck Sessions have met to produce their unique style of down-tempo electronica just a handful of times over the last two years. Medical students studying anatomy of the head and neck has never lead to anything this aurally exciting. Perhaps it is an extreme passion for music shared between the three and a hunger to play that develops on hiatus that has created such a stir. The aim has always been to release self produced ambient music that can be recreated 100% live and unadulterated.
Comparisons to Cinematic Orchestra and Fourtet indicate that this goal has been surpassed through the group’s dedication and will to succeed despite the impossibly small amount of time at their disposal.
Recently things have become more serious; two record contracts coupled with an explosion of interest from all over the world have lead to the conclusion that the band will relocate to London in mid 2008. Head and Neck Sessions will continue to release tracks one by one until they are able to wholly dedicate themselves to the production of their debut album for which momentum has been building since the very start.
"Fresh music two thousand and seven style" - Gilles Peterson
“deeply calming and exciting” “Most young artists and bands are not producing this sort of music” - Matthew Laidlow (Hecklerspray)
“Head and Neck Sessions are dope” -Dale Coachman (Schememag)
“Great Sound, amazing Drums, smooth Rhodes and cool Cuts - the New Cinematic Orchestra?” – Rebellen
Head and Neck Sessions are currently collaborating with a range of vocalists including Urban Music Award nominated shortMAN and acclaimed jazz vocalist Becki Biggins. The tracks have been well received by radio stations around the world. The band has performed live on local BBC Radio and tracks have been featured on Gilles Peterson’s Radio 1 show. They are currently amid preparations to record a live session for the Gilles Peterson Woldwide show.
The band’s debut single (a 1212/aa flowes 7” vinyl) is out now on Dancing Turtle Records, tracks are also to be released through A Future Without Records.
