Nanourisma Νάνι νάνι το παιδί όσο να 'ποκοιμηθεί Όσο νάρθ' η μάνα…
Olga Zuyderhoff
on Tikho nad Richkoyu (Ukraine)
This is such a beautiful song, thank you!
We were learning it at folk dancing and it had a sorrowful tone to it, so I wanted to learn more from the lyrics.
Apparently a circle song, where young women drop a wreath of flowers worn on their heads into the river, where their future husband finds it.
Tikho Nad Richkoyu (continued):
Song words:
(S. Cherkasenko)
Tikho nad richkoyu, nichen’ku temnuyu It is quiet on the river, the evening is dark,
Spyt’ zacharovanyi lis. / The enchanted woods are sleeping. /
Nizhno shepoche bin kazku tayemnuyu, Nearby it whispers a story secretly,
Sumno zitkha verboliz. /2 A willow sadly sighs. /2
Nichka rozipala zori sriblyastiyi, The evening spills out silvery stars,
On voni v richtsi na dni, They are reflected on the bottom of the river./
Plachut’ berezi po toi bik kudraviyi, Birches are weeping on the far tangled shore,
Zdaleka linut’ pisni. /2 Songs are flowing from afar. /2
