Mógil has played at many festivals e.g. WOMEX World music festivall, Reykjavík Jazz festival, Iceland Airwaves and has toured a few times around in Belgium, Holland and Iceland. They compose their own songs, which are either matched to old Icelandic folk texts, or comprise new lyrics similarly written in the folk style.
In the fall of 2008 Mógil recorded a CD which resulted in their debut album ‘Ró’, an album that combines Scandinavian vastness with European density. It was released by Radical Duke. The Ró got excellent reviews and was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards in 2008.
On a sunny summer day in Iceland, Mógil gathered in a beautiful studio by the sea surrounded by seals, whales and seagulls and recorded their CD Í stillunni hljómar, which was released in 2011.
Mógil is currently working on a new album, which was recorded in Sundlaugin í Iceland this summer. We plan to have our CD release concerts in August 2015.
Here are a few quotes:
"Other good times included the spindly chamber-folk tensions of Mógil!"
Rolling Stone senior writer David Fricke
"The music floats in a gauzy haze with the vocals delivered in a rich, soprano that has a folk-based earthiness, contrasting with the very contemporary accompaniment. This not only gives the music a healthy tension but also a timeless feel."
The New York City Jazz record - NYC
"The best Belgian release at the moment"
Humo - Belgium
"Zusammen spielte das Quartett eine verzaubernde Musik"
Christoph Giese, Reykjavík Jazz festival
"Music for a new Iceland, Borderless genius"
MBL - Iceland
"I recommend Ró for listeners that are interested in looking beyond the horizon"
Folk Rodels - Belgium
"Music that touches the soul"
The silent ballet - NYC
"Ró sounds warm and adventurus"
De Morgen - Belgium
"The music is intelligent and creative, highly recommended!"
Psychedelic folk - NYC
"Ró is exquisite from the beginning to the end"
Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery - NYC
