Mac Ayres Lyrics
Oh you heard
What they say
Oh, the more things change
The more they stay the same
Ain't that a shame? (I know it's a shame)
I've been good
For some time
I'd be lying if I said that
You ain't on my mind
Been tryin' to give it some time
Feeling like I'm runnin' away
Never had the chance, chance to say
I can say that loving you is easy
I don't need to prove a single thing
Somewhere along the way I guess you got under my skin
I put all my cards out on the table
You ain't ever gonna show your hand
I would rather hold you close than try to understand
Mornin' sun, mornin' high
Oh, I think this haze is for now my best disguise
No need to think about why
What'cha say, starry-eyed
How you love to smile
And watch the clouds reside
Just tryin' to give it some time
Feeling like I'm runnin' away
Never had the chance, chance to say
I can say that loving you is easy
I don't need to prove a single thing
Somewhere along the way I guess you got under my skin
I put all my cards out on the table
You ain't ever gonna show your hand
I would rather hold you close than try to understand
I put all my cards out on the table
You ain't ever gonna show your hand
I would rather hold you close than try to understand
I can say that loving you is easy
I don't need to prove a single thing
Somewhere along the way I guess you got under my skin
I put all my cards out on the table
You ain't ever gonna show your hand
I would rather hold you close than try to understand

I listened to this song when I first met him
I listened to this song when I'm with him
I listened to this song when I'm alone in my room, missing him
I listened to this song while I was cherishing the moments we had together
I listened to this song when I learned that my best friend and him started dating with me left behind
I listened to this song when I cried and wanted to take the pain away
I listened to this song when I finally forgave them for what they did to me
Now, I still listen to this song despite all the memories I had with it, this was my favorite song and it still reminds me of him. He was my first love, I felt so happy when I'm around him and I have never felt like that before. :)
hehe sorry for the drama

I was Mac's middle school chorus teacher, and later his high school music theory teacher. Yes, he crushed the AP music theory test, by the way. I can tell you that Mac has always been an undeniable talent. Such a natural. One day in middle school he asked me to record him for an audition for something. Of course I said yes, and set up my recording gear. He sang Elvis Presley's Jail House Rock while accompanying himself on ukulele. I walked around with a grin on my face for 2 weeks after hearing that. Blew me away, even then. But you're not just born with it, you have to work hard and learn the craft. And Mac is a true student of music. It gives me immeasurable satisfaction to watch Mac make his career in music, and to see the student surpass the teacher. Mac - you already know this, but if you're read this - proud of you always! 👊

This was the first song that my girl showed me. It was beautiful and honestly helped us fall in love just that little bit faster that spring. Oddly enough, she wasn't all that easy to love. After six months she up and ran away to Colorado, and broke up with me a week later. I don't think this song is about love being easy, but maybe sometimes it's about how natural it is. Despite all the obstacles, you love someone, easily even, in spite of things.
