Youβve got to be willing to act intrepidly at the right moments. Natalie La Rose knows just when to be bold. In 2011 while attending an ESPY Awards after party, she walked up to Flo Rida and told him they were going to work together. Struck by her charisma and confidence, the (intrigued) multi-platinum international superstar invited her to the studio the next day. Over the course of two years to follow, she performed alongside Flo across the globe at sold out shows. 2013 saw her officially ink a deal with his International Music Group (I.M.G.) label, formally solidifying their partnership.
However, that wasnβt the first time Natalie followed such an impulse. Born to Surinamese parents and raised in Amsterdam, she moved to Los Angeles alone at 20-years-old, pursuing her dream of becoming a singer and dancer. Inspired by everyone from Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to Mariah Carey, she honed her vocal chops through years of diligent practice. That prowess led to a deal with Blackground Records/Interscope Records for her duo Amsterdam in 2010.
βThe group didnβt work out, and no music was released,β she sighs. βIt just wasnβt the right time. However, with Flo, everything felt right. We have such a great chemistry, and heβs given me an incredible launch pad for me and my songs.β
That music flaunts her immense voice with flourishes of both eighties and nineties R&B. Itβs an instantly irresistible style. βIβm very inspired by pop and rhythm,β she goes on. βThereβs a soulfulness and great groove though. Since Iβm a dancer, itβs important for my music to have a nice beat.β
Her debut single for I.M.G./Republic Records βSomebodyβ [featuring Jeremih] will undoubtedly get the dance floor moving. Over smooth production from Future Classic, the song updates the melody from Whitney Houstonβs βI Wanna Dance With Somebodyβ for a new millennium. Natalieβs voice takes the spotlight in between a sexy hook from Jeremih.
βItβs a fun and funky song,β remarks Natalie. βItβs feel-good, and it reminds me of summertime. I love to be around people, have a great time, and dance. Thatβs what it stands for. While we were recording Jeremih happened to be in Miami for a Big Dreams for Kids Back to School Event and Flo invited him to the studio to sing on it. He nailed it on the first take!β
Ultimately though, βSomebodyβ simply opens the doorway for Natalie. βIf you want something, you have to fight for it,β she leaves off. βThatβs what I did. I want to show everybody living your dream is possible. I want to leave people with smiles on their faces, inspire them, and move them.β

Natalie La Rose Lyrics
Come on
Natalie La Rose
I wanna rock with somebody (whoah yeah)
I wanna take shot with somebody (shot, shot, shot, shot)
I wanna leave with somebody (somebody, comm'on, comm'on)
And we ain't gonna tell nobody
We ain't gonna tell nobody
Walking everybody knows what's good
But some gonna hate what's new
We just do our favorite time to waste
Always playing cool
And at the end of the night
When our love's going out we turn down
Oh no we won't (we'll never turn it down, we'll never turn it down)
And when it try to make this leave we turn to say we never going home
And you know just what I wanna do
I wanna rock with somebody (whoah yeah)
I wanna take shot with somebody (shot, shot, shot, shot)
I wanna leave with somebody (somebody, comm'on, comm'on)
And we ain't gonna tell nobody
We ain't gonna tell nobody
Walking everybody know what's good
We are only block
Bring us everything we think we need
Tonight is going up (tonight is going up)
And at the end of the night
When our love's going out we turn down
Oh no we won't (we'll never turn it down, we'll never turn it down)
And when it try to make this leave we turn to say we never going home
I wanna rock with somebody (whoah yeah)
I wanna take shot with somebody (shot, shot, shot, shot)
I wanna leave with somebody (somebody, comm'on, comm'on)
And we ain't gonna tell nobody
We ain't gonna tell nobody
And the club like whoah
We'll be in the party in the club like whoah
And the club like
We'll be in the city going down like whoah
And the club like whoah
We'll be in the party in the club like whoah
We'll be in the city going down like whoah
We'll be in the party in the club like whoah
And at the end of the night
When our love's going out we turn down
Oh no we won't (we'll never turn it down, we'll never turn it down)
And when it try to make this leave we turn to say we never going home

I wanna take shot with somebody (shot, shot, shot, shot)

This song takes me back to 6th grade. Iβd hear this in the car after leaving an after school program I attended, where I made a ton of friends at the time, played soccer, and got to talk to this girl I had a deep crush on at the timeπ. And this song was definitely a mood on Fridays. Life was much simpler then. Music is the closest thing we have to a time machine. Canβt believe that was six years as Iβm writing this comment. Sending peace and love to everyone
