The group's electronica-infused latin spirit works equally well on the dance floor as it does live on stage or in the living room. Their energetic stage act incorporates driving beats and samples as well as live instruments and vocals.
The word 'Planalto' is Portuguese for Parliament, literally meaning 'the highest level'. Planalto strive to attain this by creating music which combines danceability with atmosphere, depth of vision and a magnificent live experience. Guaranteed to raise a smile and get absolutely anyone dancing! Live performances consist of the two main composers playing their computers, keyboards and guitar, with live vocals, percussion and the occasional guest musician. The band’s studio tracks form the basis for improvisations, additions and spur-of-the-moment enhancements. This live set is rounded off by brazilian dancers, who have created choreographies specifically for Planalto’s music.
Planalto borrows elements from 'western' electronic music whilst also drawing from the sounds of northeast Brazil, with its rich, religiously infused musical traditions. Vocalist Janaina Rodrigues da Silva, who hails from Recife, capital of the province Pernambuco in Brazil, is strongly influenced by such traditions. Planalto's musical backdrops are created by composers / producers Stefan Robbers and John Edwards. Robbers records under many names, runs the acclaimed Eevo Lute Muzique Label and also founded and performs with techno-formation Acid Junkies. Multi-instrumentalist Edwards has received outstanding press worldwide for his industrial-electro act Generator 9.
Planalto has appeared on, amongst others, Brazilian TV, RAI Uno national radio in Italy and Belgium's National VRT 1. The band is signed to Downsall Plastics, a division of Lowlands. Downsall is the label behind successful (latin-flavoured) dance acts such as Buscemi and Cinerex. In 2003, Planalto's first 12" , the Primeira Planta EP (DSL025) appeared, the next 12" , Pare, olhe e mexa' (DSL029) was released in the summer of 2003. The Temperatura EP appeared september 2004 and the band’s debut full-length album ‘Hornito’ follows later this year. Planalto also feature on several compilations, including Dutch Dance 2002, Age of wellness (ZYX), Ibiza Lounge II and Ibiza Lounge III.
