For Your Eyes Only
Sheena Easton Lyrics

For your eyes only, can see me through the night
For your eyes only, I never need to hide
You can see so much in me, so much in me that's new
I never felt until I looked at you

For your eyes only, only for you
You'll see what no one else can see, and now I'm breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The love I know you need in me, the fantasy you've freed in me
Only for you, only for you

For your eyes only, the nights are never cold
You really know me, that's all I need to know
Maybe I'm an open book because I know you're mine
But you won't need to read between the lines

For your eyes only, only for you
You see what no one else can see, and now I'm breaking free
For your eyes only, only for you
The passions that collide in me, the wild abandoned side of me
Only for you, for your eyes only

I also lived during the 70s and 80s, as a teenager in the early part of the 70s. But were times back then REALLY any better than they are now ? Perhaps in some ways, with life maybe not being as fast-paced as today, more "carefree" as a teenager, but not in other ways. Wrongful hate and racism was as pronounced then as today, sickness and aging was as much around then as today, and death was still as dominate then as today.

The Bible book of Ecclesiastes provides this insight into how things should be viewed: "Better is the end of a matter than its beginning.........Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these ?” for it is not out of wisdom that you ask this."(Ecc 7:8, 10)

And why is this so ? Just as was mentioned beforehand, that nothing really was different, except that we were younger and most likely had better health, but people's attitudes were about the same, wars existed then as now, people were as cavalier then as now.

But now concerning the future, what does it hold ? This is what God wants to give obedient mankind, telling the nation of Israel: "For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,’ declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope."(Jer 29:11; Note: Jehovah is God's personal name)

And what is the hope that he will give to "meek" ones who are to inherit a paradise earth forever ?(Matt 5:5) At Revelation 21, it says: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look ! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. And the One seated on the throne (Jehovah God) said: “Look ! I am making all things new.” (as was in the garden of Eden before rebellion entered into the picture) Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true."(Rev 21:3-5)

So, the future, not the past, is "looking good" under Jehovah's rightful rulership, for he, as the Creator of the universe with its life, knows what truly is best and makes us genuinely happy, as Isaiah 48 says: "This is what Jehovah says, your Repurchaser, the Holy One of Israel: “I, Jehovah, am your God, the One teaching you to benefit yourself, the One guiding you in the way you should walk. If only you would pay attention to my commandments ! Then your peace would become just like a river and your righteousness like the waves of the sea."(Isa 48:17, 18)

Was the past better than today ? Perhaps in some ways, but in reality, the past was no better than now, for people were still aging, getting sick and dying. People were just as divided then as they are now. People's attitudes of being selfish and hateful were just as prominent then as they are now.

Problems were as pronounced in the past as they are now. Wars that brought suffering and death, such as World Wars I and II, were in the past and cost the lives of an estimated 80 million + soldiers and civilians. Would we want to go back to that ?

Thus, this fits what the Bible says at Ecclesiastes 7: "Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these ?” for it is not out of wisdom that you ask this."(Ecc 7:10) The past held no further advantage over what we have now, for it remains the same of being "“the greatest futility ! Everything is futile !” What does a person gain from all his hard work at which he toils under the sun ? A generation is going, and a generation is coming."(Ecc 1:2-4)

Are we not just a long line of "generations" that have come and gone, so that in reality, what has a person gained in the past in relation to now that has provided benefits that last forever ? Was the world more united in the past than it is now ?

The past was filled with just as many troubles as now, but now, we can take a step forward in gaining an understanding of who is in charge of "the world", who is misleading mankind down the road to death, which the Bible shows as "the dragon" or Satan the Devil.(Rev 12:9)

And now, we can learn who our Creator is, that he is God, whose personal name is Jehovah, for Zechariah 12 says: "“The word of Jehovah concerning Israel,” declares Jehovah, the One who stretched out the heavens, who laid the foundation of the earth, and who formed the spirit of man within him."(Zech 12:1)

And now, we can take steps to "search for Jehovah", so as to have an everlasting future on a paradise earth.(Isa 55:6; Luke 23:43) So, is it not the course of wisdom to look to the future rather than the past, that often reminds us of the carnage that mankind, while under Satan's "thumb", has wreaked havoc on itself.

Here is the future that Jehovah has promised for those who come to love him: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look ! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. And the One (Jehovah God) seated on the throne said: “Look ! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”(Rev 21:3-5)
