Their indie-rock sound was combined with a wide variety of influences from folk to progressive rock and the odd touch of electronica. They were sometimes likened to Throwing Muses, partly due to the similarity of Claire Lemmon's voice to Kristin Hersh's, but also their shared taste for uncomfortable lyrical themes - murder, religion, the workings of the human body and surrealist stories and films.
They released three albums: Broooch (1993), Bodies (1995) and Obsessive (1997). Bodies was produced by Tim Smith of Cardiacs, and they have since been closely associated with Cardiacs, contributing to their stage shows and recordings.
The group split in 1999 following the demise of their record label Ultimate. They briefly reformed in 2001 with an additional guitarist (under the name Tetra); and performed a one-off reunion gig in December 2005.
