The original lineup also included new comers Geoff Keiser & Andrew Ramage. Originally, influenced by Jack Johnson & Dispatch, Sex and Steel Wool was Buffalo’s Best Beach Rock Band.
In 2006, Keiser and Ramage left the band and Sex and Steel Wool disbanded. Baker and Green continued to write new music with the help of old friend, David Marcoux. Speed Limit Seven (SL7) was the result. After auditioning several drummers the trio decided to forfeit traditional drumming for sampled beats and sequencers creating a truly unique sound. SL7 still plays some of the fan favorites from the Sex and Steel Wool days (“The Pantless Revolution” where the band sings about funny things to do without pants and if the crowd requests it the band plays the song in their boxers for comic effect) and has many new songs and covers a variety of lesser known and famous artists (including Flogging Molly, Guster, Dispatch, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Social Distortion, Louis Armstrong, Blue October, and many others). Their original songs range from lush arrangements with thoughtful lyrics such as in “Tarnish” to comical rock tunes such as “Mullet Man” to moody ethereal rock in their newest song “Highway Hypnosis.” Every show provides a rich assortment of sounds and textures while keeping a high-energy vibe with thick vocal harmonies.
