Rainbow Kraut
The John Steel Singers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was watching the world, through the window
There was nothing to hide, through the blindes
I was living the life, of a wrecking ball
Swinging dangerously low, at everything in sight

I was waltzing the wife, of a widower
Though I was unaware, at the time
She was living the life, of a silhouette
I was towing the line, between her sodden life

She is the sun on the snow, she floods the cities below
She rings her tears, from the glass
Falling in colours all, around me

Orange morone green and yellow, blue

Overall Meaning

The first verse of The John Steel Singers' song Rainbow Kraut describes the singer's state of mind and actions as he observes the world through a window. The use of blinds suggests that the singer is concealed or closed off from the outside world. The metaphor of the wrecking ball describes the singer's destructive tendencies and how he is swinging dangerously low at everything in sight. It's possible that the singer is dealing with some inner turmoil and is having a hard time controlling his emotions and behavior.

The second verse introduces the character of a widower's wife who the singer is waltzing with. At the time, he was unaware of the complexities of her situation, and she was living the life of a silhouette which could indicate that she was not fully seen or understood by those around her. She may have been in a state of mourning or struggling to find her place in the world. The singer acknowledges that he is towning the line between her sodden life, suggesting that he is playing a dangerous game by getting involved with her.
