Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Me sem gova chavoro,
Khelav mange majlacho,
Oj andale mandale,
E chora man astaren.
Kas me astarava,
Me mange asava,
Samo jekh chaj ni mangel,
Voj mande puchel

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.

Sa e chaja kelena,
Voj ni mangel te khelel,
Oj andale mandale,
Mudarel man o devel.
Ava Ruza ava khel,
A i tiro mek avel,
Oj andale mandale,
E sviracha ka kelen.

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.
Chao maj o hutalo, I Ruza so ni kelel,
Oj andale mandale, an bobo ki astarel.
Ava Ruza ava khel,
Pa i tiro mek avel,
Oj andale mandale,
E sviracha ka kelen.

O opa cupa na ker mange chaje muka,
Ti daj ka merel ako ni keles.
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde,
Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bratsch's song "Opa Tsupa" are in Romani language and talk about a young boy who is working as a shepherd and describes his experiences while he herds the livestock. The first verse talks about how the boy is a good worker and has fun while doing his job. He talks about how he sees the animals moving and dancing around, and he too dances with them. He also mentions how he has a small tea kettle and asks for someone to give him some tea so he can take a sip.

In the second verse, the boy talks about a man named Opa Tsupa who doesn't want to give him any of his delicious food. The boy requests him again and again to share his food with him. The chorus "Lumbaj, lumbaj, lumbalaj ajde ajde ajde" is a typical Balkan gypsy exclamation of excitement and encouragement, urging everyone to dance.

In the third verse, the boy talks about how he sees other children playing and wishes that he too could join them. He talks about a woman named Ruza who is playing an instrument called svira, and he wishes to play it too. He then talks about how Ruza's son has come to play with him and the other children. The song ends with the chorus again.

Overall, the song talks about the innocence and simplicity of childhood and the fun that can be found in even the most mundane tasks.
