Drown the City
A Skylit Drive Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lie to me
I won't lie
Tape your mouth shut
Lie to me
I won't lie
Swallow your tongue

Forget it all I have you buried in my walls
Ill use your skin to cover up my scares

The place you lay in a bloody hall of fame
The ropes that tied your hands right by your side
The place you lay in a bloody hall of fame
The ropes that tied your hands right by your side

So now your screaming at the top of your lungs
Hoping for someone to come
Hoping they’ll bring a gun
To inflict all the pain
I caused upon you.

I won't die I will lie
The only problem with the story carved on your chest
Is its hard to read when your missing your ribs

The place you lay in a bloody hall of fame
The ropes that tied your hands right by your side
The place you lay in a bloody hall of fame
The ropes that tied your hands right by your side

So now your screaming at the top of your lungs
Hoping for someone to come
Hoping they’ll bring a gun
To inflict all the pain
I caused upon you.

I won't die I will lie
The only problem with the story carved on your chest
Is its hard to read when your missing your ribs

So now your screaming at the top of your lungs
Hoping for someone to come
Hoping they’ll

Overall Meaning

Drown the City is a powerful and intense song by A Skylit Drive that explores the darker side of relationships. The lyrics depict a disturbing scene of abuse and betrayal, as the singer (presumably the abuser) tells the victim to lie and tapes their mouth shut. The chorus repeats the lines "So now you're screaming at the top of your lungs, hoping for someone to come, hoping they'll bring a gun to inflict all the pain I caused upon you." It's a haunting and chilling exploration of the psychological trauma and violence that can occur in toxic relationships.

One interpretation of the lyrics is that they are written from the perspective of a stalker or murderer. The lines "Forget it all, I have you buried in my walls, I'll use your skin to cover up my scars" suggest that the singer has killed the victim and is using their skin as a mask. The reference to a "bloody hall of fame" further emphasizes the violent and gruesome nature of the scene.

The song is full of vivid imagery and descriptive language that brings the disturbing scene to life. The repetition of certain phrases, such as "I won't die I will lie" and "the only problem with the story carved on your chest is it's hard to read when you're missing your ribs," adds to the sense of horror and helplessness felt by the victim.

Overall, Drown the City is a harrowing and unsettling song that explores themes of abuse, violence, and the darker side of human relationships.

Same I think I still have the demo song somewhere - I got the demos of most of the songs from this EP. I remember talking to Jordan back in the day about the album too - This death hit me hard.
