Aske same here. i remember when i was first getting into jay dee's work i couldn't understand why people called him the best producer of all time. there was one day when i was doing some work outside for a neighbor and was listening to donuts for the first time in my life. still didn't get it... until lightworks came on. as soon as i heard the drum track come in i understood. the way he chopped up the vocals on the sample to say "light up the spliffs" and the way he slowed the sample down to keep the groove of the drums in the pocket... it all became clear. truly the most talented producer of all time. R.I.P J Dilla.

It's crazy how I played this in when I was in middle school back in 08, My dad had burned CD with a bunch of different songs and for some reason this song stuck with me. The CD end up breaking but this song and couple of more songs I remember to this day! If only bootlegging could have been included in record sales analytics, these guys would have gone diamond several times on the streets. What seems to be eons ago I remember Slum Village was performing in Albuquerque, New Mexico as an opening act for D-12 and Bonecrusher. Met Elzhi and T-3 (Dilla wasn't with them at the time. Neither was Baatin - RIP too both of these legends). My homies were there for D-12, I was there for Slum Village.

There was this one girl who was attending the show. We spoke briefly outside before the show started. She too, was there to see Slum Village (a hardcore Dilla fan like myself). Most of the folks there weren't really hip to music out of Detroit - let alone SV. We weren't really hip to D-12 or Bonecrusher.

Slum Village played their set and Climax came on. It's like everything stopped in that moment. No trace of time, timeless, like Dilla's classics. Felt like just two individuals in a venue in the moment. Not paying any mind to those around and without any care. We danced together and it felt like the whole world revolved around us. After Climax, I recalled seeing her boyfriend in the distance looking salty as fuck.

One of the greatest moments in life. I sure wish they were all alive and still together.
